Anyone use this backpack? Im looking for a decent modular 3 day backpack with organization and this Rush from the reviews and video looks like it would fit the bill for me. Anyone got any info/real world use experience with it? Thanks in advance.

SHTF,

I've got the Rush 12 and had the Rush 24 for a while. I can tell you that my sample of two are/were very well built and have well thought out organization. I've use my Rush 12 as an EDC type pack (along with a few day hikes/hunts) for at least the last two years and it has held up very well. The only piece that looks a little worn down is the bottom "no-slip" patches on the back of the bag. No failed zippers or anything of that nature either.

Only con's I can see is that they are fairly heavy compared to more of a hiking/backpacking pack and probably don't have as good of a suspension system. Also, not adjustable to fit torso length.

You didn't really say what this would be used for specifically, so that's all I'll comment on for now...

I am looking hard at the 72 for EDC bag. I like Big 2500+ EDC to carry my Get home gear and my Tablet and lunch and such. Currently I have a Camelbak BFM but I am really liking the way the 72 has that compression pocket to throw a jacket or what not in there. I want something relatively large but at the same time manageable for every day carrying. I love the modularity of the pockets on that 72. I may even use it for a pack for scouting trips. Im either looking at this or Looking at the most expensive TAD gear EDC bag. 300+ for a EDC bag has my stuck.... But man that butt stock rifle carry ability is super nice for when Im scouting in the field. I just cant make my mind up.

Yeah a video I saw on a review showed the same thing you mentioned about the no slip patch coming undone. I really like how modular the 72 is.

So the 24? Also have a lot of pockets like the 72? I know the 24 doesnt have that compression pocket. sucks.

I have a Rush 72 and a 1000D version of the Camelbak Motherlode. They are similar in size and function. Both of them are well built though the Camelbak seems a little bit more refined. The Rush 72 has a lot of organization. I especially like the shove-it (compression ) pocket. In testing them both with about 30lbs I prefer the Motherlode's suspension over the Rush 72. The belt/lumbar pad is more comfortable and the frame sheet/aluminum stay are more rigid on the Motherlode. I gave the Rush 72 to my son and he uses it for school and travel (EDC). It replaced another backpack that fell apart and after 4 years of heavy use the Rush 72 is going strong. He has overstuffed it a number times and so far has had no problems. For the price it is a good backpack and would be a great EDC. I used the Motherlode as my EDC until I got a Kifaru G1 Late Season. Now the Motherlode sits in the closet.

I agree, I do like that compression pocket (or "beaver tail" as I've heard it called). For me though, the 72 is a little big for an EDC (but you're a bigger guy than me, so it may work for you). I really only used my 24 for range, hiking, or airplane carry on since it fit my laptop. For a GHB, the 12 works well (for me) since it fits with my theory of quick, light, low-pro in a situation that I would need to ditch everything and get home...which wouldn't include my tablet :p (pretty unlikely as it is).

I've only ever glanced over the 72 since it really didn't fit anything I needed, but all three bags have very similar pocket layout. The 24 has a couple more than the 12, and I'd imagine the 72 will have a few more than the 24.

A bag that I've really been eyeing is the Camelback Linchpin. It's about the same size as the 24 with the "beavertail" design as well. It was actually designed to carry a load in a more military role (mags, radio, helmet, ect.). I may eventually move to that for EDC (or a dedicated truck bag). It also doesn't have all the MOLLE on it, so it blends a little better with the sheeple ;)

I also like the clam shell for EDC and a while back I traded for a Kifaru G1 Siwash. It has 22" stays so it meets most airline requirements. It lacks the organization of the camelbak, 5.11, and Tad Gear EDC packs but it is a clam shell and can carry weight very comfortably. I've used it as my only bag on the last few business trips and it works great. I used pouches and stuff sacks to organize my gear.

I'm probably coming at this from a different perspective than you since I want my 3-day/EDC bag to work for travel as well as around town but a bag that I've had my eye on that is more travel oriented but might work for your purposes is the Ebags Mother Lode TLS Weekender Convertible. It's $89.

The Weekender would not be a bag for hiking in the woods, though people do it, but it would work well for carrying stuff to/from work. It does not have a real suspension but the Rush 72 suspension is not all that great either. The other thing it lacks is a good waist belt (it has a removable webbing belt) but I think I can attach my Paradox waist belt to it without much trouble. It would also be easy to add a frame sheet to stiffen the suspension. I really like how the laptop pocket suspends the laptop so it doesn't touch the bottom of the pack.

So I ended up ordering the Rush 72. Anyone know if that Belt is removable? I want to replace it with a Kifaru Belt. Got it in the Dark earth. should be a decent EDC.

haha nah.... I have my personal use gear that id never sell then my gear that I buy and sell. Dont act like you know me Iron!!! :D

Haha.

Btw, I could be wrong, but from pics, it looks like the hip belt is sewn in...

Might be a cool setup on your Duplex :)
