Flying out on Friday to go up and hunt the fortymile herd in the Tok area. Anyone have any idea of how the migration is going this year? This is my first hunt in Alaska!!! I am super excited and any info would be greatly appreciated!

Per the hotline, the majority of the herd is in the roadless area. "Widely Scattered" which is what the almost always say this time of year. As of the 26th, 53 caribou had been reported from Zone 2. Seems like a decent success rate to me. Good luck.

1*(907)*267-2310 for the hotline.

I talked with my friend who is a pilot. About a week ago the caribou were mostly dispersed in the roadless areas and were not really moving. Just hanging out and feeding.

I hope you get into them.

I would guess that the worst bug irritation will be from white socks and possibly yellow jackets if you kill something. Fortunately both go to bed at sunset.

I have seen less than 5 moose in and around town since March. Last year, I'd guess I saw a moose or two each day. Looking forward to being able to do a little hunting each day before and after work starting Thursday! The cold weather will be welcomed.
