4 season tent suggestions???

Hey guys
after a bad run with some Keas(mountain parrots) I am in the market for a new tent and was wondering if anyone had suggestions.
What I am looking for is a proper 4 season 2-3 man tent. It needs to stand very high winds and heavy rain and moderate snow fall. I like shelters with a floor as we get really heavy rain and dont like sleeping in the mud. This tent will be used for Fly in Tahr and Chamois hunting trip and possibly back pack style hunts aswell(weight depending). Needs to be free standing and durable.
I am open to try tee pee type shelters with stoves is anyone has good suggestions?


I have never used a tent with a stove(in NZ) but maybe willing to try it for fly in trips where we can pack coal as a fuel.
I am willing to sacrifice weight for durability and strength.
I currently have a 3 man 4 season One Planet Nissen Hut tent which is great and will probably end up getting another one of these unless something sounds super appealing.
Had a Kuiu Mountain star which lasted me about 3 weeks of use and is pretty much buggered, also have a light weight Vaude 2 man tent(cant remember name) which is great but very small for longer trips.

i have a Hilleberg and love it. A double wall tent is amazingly warm and doesn't condensate if you vent properly. I would buy another in a heart beat

I believe you would need to go floor less in order to run a stove in a tent but you could use the Kifaru Sawtooth or Seek Outside BCS with the Seek Outside nest and a stove. The nest is not very big and would be a tight squeeze for two people, in other words, the only other person that's going to sleep in that nest with me is my wife.

I have not used the Kifaru or SO shelters but I use the SO nest in my Go-Lite SL-5 and it's not bad. I've seen the Sawtooth pitched and like it as I can stand up in it but all three of the shelters I mentioned require a good sized area to pitch. My stove is a Kifaru medium box stove and it burns through wood fast and I'm not sure how long coal would last. I mainly used my stove to warm the tent before I went to bed and warm it before I got out of my sleeping bag.

Sierra Designs Mountain Meteor 2 has proven as a bomb shelter here in CO for both my father having 40 years mountaineering and backcountry skiing, and myself. Weighs in at 10 pounds all said and done but extremely well made for wind resistance, and snow. Unfortunately the company is not selling them anymore on their site, but still available on other sites and Ebay. I have one that is at least 25 years old and is just now starting to be worn so bought a brand new one right before they stopped offering that model. And as mentioned...Hilleberg is also one of the best, have slept in them and feel just as safe and comfortable.

Hilleberg Allak sounds like a tent that would suite your needs exactly if you were backpacking.

If freestanding wasn't a requirement you can shave some weight by getting a nallo 2 or 3.

I've had a nallo 3 through 3 years of hard backcountry use here in AK and haven't ever felt the need to make the jump up to the heavier freestanding allak.

I believe Wyominglostandfound offers a tipi with a floor that has a zippered opening for stove use. I run a wyominglostandfound floorless tipi with a kifaru medium stove with good results. I burn wood in the stove; I have no idea about using coal.

I have a Hille nallo3 ...bombproof and big vestibule. I've also been looking at a Kifaru Tipi and the Seek Outside 6 or 8 man Tipi which can be run with a stove and also has a neat half nest available if its buggy yet still allows use of the stove I think.

Sounds like my Sierra Designs Stretch Dome Expedition. Bomber tent that's not made anymore.

Hilleberg Namatj and Hilleberg Kaitum at my house. Love them both and very similar wish list as yours. There are lighter Hille options but I want more room. The only thing you won't get is a stove as mentioned above due to the floor. I will say the double wall is very warm and have had no issues in temps well below zero F.
