4 guys, 9 day spike out, need a base camp?

I have been kicking around the idea of picking up a pop up camper to use as a base camp. Sure would beat putting one up after driving 26 hours.

You can generally rent them for about $500/week. Could pick it up close to where you are hunting and not have to tow it either.

I like having a base camp to come back to. Who knows......your spike camp area may be a bust and you have to come out to go find some elk. Base camp can be a great central location to cover many different options. It's also very nice to have a camp to come out to especially with four guys if you're packing animals out. Spend the night in comfort then hit it hard again in the morning. Weather can be a big deal as well for a spike camp. I like having options. And that's just me by myself. With four guys......more options is even a greater asset.

Ghost, I bought a used pop-up for $1k about 5-6 years ago and it makes a great base camp and we hike in for a couple days and come back out for a nice meal and clean up. I can only do a couple days of backpacker meals before I get sick of them and need something good. My pop-up is pretty crappy, but it does it's job. If you spend $2-3k you can get a pretty nice used one.
