4 calibers- Minimalist (rifle & pistol)- Change my mind.

May as well throw in my list, even though it follows suit with many of the above and is quite vanilla…

22lr Tikka T1x
223 Bolt Rifle (undecided on which one)
308 Tikka T3x or M70
9mm Glock 19x
12 gauge Remington 870

That is as bare as I could make it and still leaves out levers and a 22 pistol (which would be hard) but I could do anything I will ever do with those.

Ok I’ll play…and pretty much repeat everyone else.

.22LR Tikka T1X - hard to beat a Ruger 10/22, but would want the simplicity of the bolt gun.

.223 Tikka - once again, love AR’s but in a “do it all” consolidated list I would take the bolt gun.

308 is really the right choice here, but I would go with Tikka 6.5 PRC. (Honestly, the 223 checks so many boxes, I could just eliminate a 3rd rifle altogether) but.. I would still probably grab these 3 first,

Then it would come down to these two as my fourth -

12 or 20 GA 870 - heavy and bulky ammo but extremely versatile. Would prefer to take my M2 20, but you just can’t kill an 870.

Or 9mm Glock 34 - doesn’t really do anything the 22lr or 223 can’t do. However, outside of 22lr, it is probably the most common to encounter and is lightweight and compact compared to the shotgun.

But those 5 cover every possible scenario, from fun at the range, to long-ish distance hunting, to SHTF.

I could do with five:

22lr - Suppressed Winchester Wildcat scoped rifle and M&P .22 Compact Semi-auto handgun. Small game, birds sitting in trees and on fenceposts, even some self-defense work.

.223/5.56 in an AR platform - Self-defense, medium game, predator control.

6.5 Creedmoor Suppressed Bolt rifle - Large game, long range self-defense. I realize .308 might be easier to come by, but I can stockpile more than enough 6.5 Creedmoor ammo for what I would use it for.

9mm Parabellum - Small handgun such as Springfield Hellcat, Glock 43 or S&W Shield for concealed carry self-defense and a large -duty-style handgun such as Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 Full Size, Glock 17 Gen 6 or Springfield Echelon 4.5 for home defense. Also would love to have something versatile like a Springfield Kuna for the truck.

12ga Shotgun - One setup for home defense, turkeys and deer/elk hunting plus one for hunting birds and small game. My temptation would be to have one of my beloved SxS guns for birds but I realize an auto-loader is probably the way to go. Maybe three?

This is the most boring thread if you actually take it seriously

t1x .22lr
t3x 223
milspec ar15 556
glock/sig 9mm

add shotgun for birds

I’ve had probably 10 calibers over the years and I’m trying to streamline ammo, space and time with rifle(s). So I believe I’ve come up with 3 calibers (suppressed- cause who actually shoots loud these days, that’s so 90s….) that covers everything in North America (and most of Africa).

I believe stocking up on a lot of ammo (especially if the sh*t hits the fan) makes a lot of sense and many calibers is extremely inefficient.

So here we go. Change my mind.

7mm PRC bolt rifle - suppressed with a high comb stock- like a rok stock. I use TSCustoms. Used for long distance at range and Elk- yes I know you can go smaller. And in the apocalypse scenario- can shoot armored folks far away.

6.5mm CM bolt rifle- lower recoil with suppressor. Good for teens to start to get into hunting. Ammo fairly cheap. Very accurate, long barrel life (unlike 6mm CM)

6mm Arc bolt rifle- very low recoil suppressed. Accurate. Could still take antelope and mule deer bucks out to 600 yards (listen to Forms podcast if you don’t believe me)

6mm ARC AR platform - will already have ammo. No recoil suppressed. Fun predator/varmit rifle. And good for self defense in apocalypse.

9mm pistol- your personal choice on platform. But the argument has been clearly made that the extra ammo in clip is better than the .40. And 10mm/45 cal too much gun. Great back up.

9mm PCC. Delayed blow back. Will already have ammo. Great self defense within 50 yards. Also super fun suppressed. Just hear the bolt cycle with 147gr subs.

So with 6 firearms, and 4 calibers. You cover all hunting, self defense and apocalyptic scenarios.

Oh, I don’t bird hunt. And you could always shoot them with a 6arc if necessary.

Thoughts?
If I had to own only four rifles I own :
30-06,.223,22LR, 12 gauge shotgun(slugs/shot). You could effectively kill everything you need to on the planet.

I agree with all but one of these - I would substitute a .308 for the 30-06. If allowed one more rifle, it would be a .444 or 45-70, because sometimes I like to shoot heavy bullets and roll with the recoil.
