4, 10’s Rotating Weekends

I work 4-10s. Maintenance schedule is Thursday to Sunday. Having 3 days off , potentially 4 on holiday , is nice. My daughter is too young for school so I get spend lots of time with her. Hunting during the week is the best.

About to start a 9/80 schedule with an aerospace/defense company. This will be the first time I’ve had a schedule like this can’t wait for the time it frees up every other weekend.

Working on the railroad I'll do bad things in a dark alley for 4-10's. Usually through spring and hunting season I'm on 4-10's with Friday-Sunday off. It sure makes it easy to save my vacation days for hunting. Then it's no big deal to take off on a Thursday to hunt friday and saturday. Then spend sunday with Jesus and Family.

I do 2 days on, 2 off, 2 nights, 2 off, 2 days etc. 12hr days
Id kill for 4x 10s, hell id even do 4x 12s.

Night Shift sucks the big one and the sooner I boot it, the happier and healthier I'll be.

As others have said, definitely depends on your family situation.
If the $$ is good, its so much easier to get stuff done when everyone else is at work and youre just free to do your sh!t
Absolute worst work schedule I've ever heard. This WILL shorten your life.

I work 4 tens with a similar schedule except every weekend off. I work Monday through Thursday then Tuesday through Friday. Every other weekend I have 4 days off. It’s great especially compared to my previous schedule which was 12s, with every other weekend off.

I was 4x10’s for the better part of six years but then I switched jobs and was forced back into 5x8’s. I’m about to transfer back into the old job and getting back on 4x10’s FINALLY.

I rued the day I lost that schedule. During those six years my wife worked a normal 5x8- it was actually nice having one day a week all to myself, especially for hunting and fishing.

It also makes taking vacations a lot easier. I found us taking more long weekend trips where I’d take Thursday off, she’d take Thursday and Friday off, and we’d leave Wednesday and come back Sunday. It was how I was able to bank a lot of PTO and start carrying over more as well.

We’ve talked about that too since she has a lot of time off. I had a state job a few years ago with tons of time off and pre-inflation we had lots of disposable income, I have had a better wage since leaving that but little time off to do cool stuff with. I feel like this job I could work my 4x10 for the man spend a day on my side hustle and still have two days for myself every week.

I interviewed for a job today. Long story short it’s 4,10’s straight days, it’s maintenance so most of the work is done on weekends but every other weekend you get fri, sat, sun, mon off. I haven’t been offered anything, I’m considering at this point. It’s only a couple miles from home which is better than the 30 miles each way I have now. Does anyone work a schedule like that? Seems like you could get a lot of cool stuff done on the long weekend.
So if its 4 10s with every other being a 4 day weekend are you weekend work weeks Monday Tuesday off? 4 10s already has 3 day weekends so where dos the extra day come from? Does this shift work holidays? If you have paid holidays how do they work if they land on a work day or off day?

What is their overtime policy? Can they force you to stay longer or come in on your days off? It sounds like work life balance is important to you so make sure you find that out or those 4-10s may become 5 or 6 12s.

Yep, I went to work for a utility company once that said there would be occasional overtime.
2 weeks later, was working 7/12's for 3 months at a time.
