My kids want a 3d printer and I know nothing about them. Do any of you guys into these things have a recommendation on something basic to get them started? I really don’t want to spend more than $400 or $500 and we have apple computers.

Thanks

We've got a couple Prusa printers at work that I use a lot. I think they're pretty good but maybe a little out of your budget. Maybe search FB Market place for a used MK3. I have zero experience with any other brand, but the Prusa printers have worked well for us.

Lot's of after market support and info on the web about them, I found that very helpful when learning to operate them and/or trouble shoot things.

The Creality Ender 3 printers (look at the newer, upgraded versions like the S1) are the standard for budget, home printers. Lots of aftermarket support as well, so you can upgrade components as you learn more about printing. They can take a fair bit of tuning in to get them running right.

As stated above, the Prusa MK3's are hard to beat, but they do cost a bit more.

You can also look at the Bambu Labs P1P. We use their X1C at work, which is a lot more expensive, but we've had a great experience with it.

Do they want to print or mess with a printer? There is a difference in the realm. If they just want to print bambu labs is the iPhone of printers and are minimal fuss compared to other brands (like Ender, etc.).

They have a small A1mini and larger A1 in your price point.

They don’t know, they are 9 and 10. Easy is better. If they really like it we can upgrade.

Just looked at the a1 mini, I’ll probably order it. Thanks for the info.

No problem.

What I meant earlier is there is a difference between a project car you want to tinker on and modify, etc. Then there is a car that drives generally reliably and you hardly think about it from a mechanical standpoint other than an oil change or such periodically.

I have enough chores already so I’d like one we don’t have to mess with too much.

Also second bambulab. From the box to starting my first print in about 10 min. Have about 500 hours on mine with minimal issues.

Cool topic
I have some interest in 3D printing and like cma, know nothing about them.
Will they all pretty much do the same thing?
More money equal to speed, bells and whistles?

I plus a Bambu printed. I have own a few different printers and the Bambu printers are plug and print.

Is this combo with the $90 Amazon coupon worth buying over the stand alone printer?

We got that combo at Christmas. Good set up. We don’t do multi color prints as much as I thought we would. I paid a quite bit less than that Amazon price. Wait for one of the sales if you can. At the time I bought it, it was cheaper direct from their website.

Thanks, I did find it cheaper on the Bambu website. Glad to hear it worked out
