I finally got a chance to play with this sweet little rifle I picked up last fall. The felt recoil is a little more stout than that of my 375 H&H but still very managable.

I was able to group the the 250gr GMX over 80gr of HV100 a little tighter than the 300gr hornady dangerous game factory loads. The cross hairs on the Luepy 1.5 X 5 are pretty coarse and at a 100 yards the hash marks on the target are blocked out. The photo is of the 300gr.

I sure with a little more trigger time I'll be able to tighten things up but as I said the cross hairs are pretty coarse. All and all I think this rifle will be some pretty good bear medicine this spring.

I had a custom .375 Ruger built a year after they introduced it. It is braked and shoots like a 7mm rem mag. I broke in the barrel and have not touched it since. I believe you have sparked the interest to play around with it again. The factory Rugers grouped best with the 300 grain round nose bullets from what I read. You got a good rifle. Just need the right place to use it and the right game. Thinking about a late season cow elk tag this year.

I don't have any 375 round nose bullets right now, I do have a couple of boxes of 300gr partitions and a few different powders I'm going to try. With no muzzle brake and the coarse duplex reticle I'm not expecting 7mm rem mag accuracy but I'd sure like to tighten things up a little.

I have started working up a load using RL15 and 250 Gr Barnes TTSX, I haven't had a chance to check grouping yet. But 75 Gr of RL15 is at 2715 FPS out of my Ruger Guide Gun with a 20 inch barrel.

I am not sure RL15 is going to be the powder for this match, at 2715 fps, it's about as powerful as 300 WM. I have some RL17 which might match this round better.

I know that this is not exactly the same.... I have a .375Weatherby in a MarkV rifle that I got used from someone who did not like the recoil. It tosses 300grain Hornady BTSP bullets at 2770fps measured with my MagnetoSpeed using 84 or 85 grains of Hodgdon Hybrid 100V. You may look into that powder and see what it would do for you.
I looked it up online and the website says 74-78.5grains of Hybrid 100V for estimated velocity of 2486-2645 fps.

Lovely rifle and an awesome calibre. IMO one of the best new calibres of recent times. My 375 R Guide Gun is super accurate and the recoil is very manageable even without the brake.I think you might find your groups tighten up with a slightly more stable shooting platform. The bench and front rest look a little flimsy.

I also tried the Hornady DG factory ammo and found it to be much slower than advertised and relatively poor accuracy. There is also no-way in hell I would use it on a DG hunt. I blasted some pigs with them and they exploded like a varmint round - most often they didn't exit. I ended up using 270gr Barnes TSX's and 225gr Barnes TSX's. My rifle is not fussy and will shoot sub MOA for almost all loads that I feed it. I am keen to run some Woodleigh protected points and Speer Hot-Cor's through it as a more economical round for bulk shooting of non-DG.

Quick update on load development today with the RL15.

76 gr - 2770 FPS
77 gr - 2798 FPS
77.5 gr - 2808 FPS
78 gr - 2824 FPS

77 gr load was the first measurable case growth.

Loaded up some Winchester 748 behind 250 GMX.
68.2gr - 2570 fps
71.0gr - 2630 fps
72.4gr - 2675 fps
At 72.4gr which is max listed on Hornady's site there were no signs of pressure and it was the most accurate. Was finally able to get a group under an inch. Since I have a couple pounds of 748 and two boxes of GMX bullets I'm probably going to continue down this road for at least this springs bear season.

I'm shooting 83.5 gr of H4350 behind a 250gr TTSX in my Ruger Alaskan in .375 Ruger. Shoots moa and complete penetration on two moose so far.

Hey Mike, I see you're in Alberta. Are you on Canadian Gunnutz? I did a .375 bullet test that I posted there last winter. Showed great result with the 250gr GMX.

Steve could you pm me the name of the thread? I did a search over there but couldn't find it. I did a little more loading and shooting today. The wind was howling all day so I'm not real concerned with the accuracy but 81.5gr of IMR 4350 was the tightest. As you can see by my log I'm still not able to achieve the velocities you guys are.
