375 Ruger Guide Gun Issues

Working on sighting in my new Ruger guide gun in 375 Ruger for an upcoming hunt. I mounted my vx2 Leupold that has always been a go to for me when it comes to hunting. I am having trouble getting the scope to zero, I have run out of windage adjustment. The rifle shot a little low and 22” to the left on the first shot after the third shot and all the windage adjustment it had, 25 minutes, it is still shooting 3.5” left. I am going to take the scope off and remount and see if the impact changes. The scope seems to be tracking correctly. Any advice or has anyone had similar issues? Thank you

Id try a different scope. That's pretty bad, and makes me think it's a mounting problem. Its not unheard of for the scope mount holes to be out of alignment.

Would you by chance happen to be using those leupold bases with the horizontal screws on the rear ring?

Is it still in the laminate stock? If you live somewhere with lots of moisture or it was exposed to lots of it i would look at sealing it on the inside.

Rifle is brand new been in the safe, it is still in the laminate stock

laminated stock
scope rings
scope rings nest on action
muzzle device

If you call cs they will advise you to try all muzzle devices first. Probably they will blame you or scope. Then you might get new ring etc.. And after all hustle if problems not fix, rifle will go to warranty.

It’s hard to tell right now what is the cause I recentered the reticle on the scope and remounted the scope trying to make sure everything was as lined up and square as possible and torqued equally. If it still shoots way off point of aim. I may try a different scope next.

Exactly. This is not uncommon with Rugers unfortunately. You could try to lap that misalignment out, and that’s what I would try first, but it may be too much. You could also try different rings. Leupold makes a Ruger ring version. Beyond that, you’d need a scope with more travel, or a warranty trip back to Ruger because the integral bases are not in line with the bore.

FWIW, this was the last Ruger I tinkered with. It lapped right out with some effort.

I purchased a Ruger Hawkeye 257 Roberts this year that had the same identical issues. People have already pointed out what's wrong. The Ruger scope rings are the absolute worst set of rings I've ever seen in my life. Never seen misalignment so bad. I think a 10 year old with a piece of metal and a drill press can make a better set.

Finally time to update. I sent the rifle off the day before Thanksgiving and received it back from Ruger on December 20th. Ruger in their own words: Reworked Scope Cuts, Refinished, Mount Scope Rings, Polished Chamber, Torqued Stock to Specs. So after getting through the holidays and year end I was finally able to find some time to go out and zero the rifle. The first shoot was 3" left and around 4" high, so with a few small adjustments this rifle was hitting right on target with the original scope and the factory ring that Ruger sent back with the rifle. So I proceed to go into the house and take off that scope and switch to a vx5 2-10 Leupold and Warne QD rings and go back out to the range. Same results with this setup. Rifle was hitting extremely close to point of aim and I was able to shoot a 1" group at a 100 yards no problem.

I am extremely happy with Ruger's wiliness to take the rifle back in and work on it and for the quick turn around. I also am very appreciative that they took the time to polish the chamber the rifle functions flawlessly now.
