I’m gonna start reloading 350 legend as I hunt whitetails in IL which is a straight wall state.

So being new to loading straight wall I have a few questions-

1) I’ll be loading hornady FTX - which die set is best? I think I read comment about hornady having the best seating stem for these.

2) is starline brass g2g for this use?

3) so I need to crimp? I’ll be running these in a bolt gun.

Starline brass is great. I'm using a plain set of Lee dies and they've been fine. No marks on the FTX noses at all.

Remember that the cartridge headspaces on the case mouth, so you can't roll crimp it, and I don't even think anyone makes dies that would allow roll crimping.

Mine is a single shot so I don't remember if my dies taper crimp or just seat without 'crimping' at all. It's not terribly important in a single shot, so I can't answer you for sure there as I haven't touched it in at least a year now.

My wife just bought herself a Ruger American gen 2 350 legend. I bought a set of Lee and RCBS. Decided to use the RCBS. I thought both had a lifetime warranty. Nope Lee has a 2 yr warranty. RCBS has a lifetime warranty. I usually buy 2 sets of dies of that caliber. Keep one one as backup. I think i will send the Lee set back. And buy 2 extra short decapping pin for that die. My wife won't shoot much.

I’ve been reloading for the 350 legend for a couple years now. I have the Hornady die set which has a taper crimp die included. I’ve had very good success with it so far. I do only a very light crimp and it has worked well. The 165 ftx is a great bullet as well. I’ve got them going 2380 fps out of a cva cascade with a 22 in barrel. My boys and I have taken 6 deer now with that combo. Every one has been a complete pass through with great blood trails, shots have been from 20-170 yds. You’ll have a blast loading for the 350. Good luck.
