.35 Whelen for general big game use

Any reason you didn't go up to the .366 diameter? I always though if I were to do another rebore on the 06 case a 9.3 variety would be dang fun and cool to try.

I didn't really know any better at the time. My smith had the reamer already, and I kinda liked the idea of the Whelen. Didn't even think about bullet availability when I had him do it.

Makes sense!! I hadnt really looked into them until a couple years ago. Not sure it's any "better" than the 35 whelen just something different. Given I already have a 338-06 if I am looking for more wallop off the 06 case it's likely the route i would go just cause I guess.

How does that whelen shoot? What loads does it like?

Reading this again seeing you are comparing a high BC bullet of the 338-06 and the standard low cost low BC bullet of the whelen is pretty darn funny. I guess I was unaware Hornady quit making interlocks in .338 to keep things apples to apples. But if it helps you prove your point don't let facts get in the way of making a point. ;)
Substitute Hot Cors for Interlocks.

Yes hot Cors are a cheap plinking bullet as well for both 35 whelen and 338 caliber options as well so not I am not so sure what the point you were trying to make was....

I've only shot cast in it so far, as that is what I had it made for, but it shoots awesome. This one printed 4 into .804" C-C, with the flier being the result of a wet and slippery tupperware stock being ripped right out of my hand when I touched it off. The flier was round #4, and #5 went right back into the group. This load is WC852F (55.0 grns), which is supposed to have a similar burn rate to H380, but I have not done a direct comparison yet. This load came from Hodgdon Manual #26.
