You mean as in Savage commercials? I don't watch jack on cable. But yeah, it's savage nation. IIRC he gave away the CC 7. Which is gay that I actually know that.

Lol I saw it on Netflix. So not sure how recent those episodes are. He and his buddy killed Idaho mule deer with Savages and I think I saw him hunt bear with one too.

338 is a hammer on elk. Mine was a Mark V semi custom with brake and it was heavy. Shot incredible groups with that thing and quite a few animals. Just sold it to a friend and bought a 300. Wanted something more toteable and more of an all around gun.

What about a .338-06? You'd have all the 'whomp' of a heavy .338 bullet at a slightly reduced range, but with a very mild (comparatively) recoil.
I have zero experience, so I'm literally throwing guesses around here!

Other than price of ammo, I think Rob's on to something with the 338-06. Ammo prices don't matter if you handled anyway. I'd like to build a 338-06 myself.

That's what I did. Got myself a 338-06 in a lighter (roughly 3 pounds) package than my 338 WM. As such I haven't hunted with my 338 WM since. 225s at 2700 fps or 210s at 2800 fps isn't given up too much to the 225s at 2900 I am spitting out of the 338 WM.

That said if you don't reload it's not the round for you IMO.

Going to side track a little here but been thinking if I don't get a good deal on a 338 I may just go 300 win mag but did some searching of 300 win vs wby vs rum and everyone says the rum trumps besides the fact that it a fairly new round and hasn't proven it'll last.

Thoughts on going to RUM??

300 WBY, 300 RUM, 300 WIN. 210 Bergers. Didly dick difference. Pick a team and play on it. You guys worry about too much shit.

Especially if you are only looking to shoot to 500 yards. 300 RUM ammo will be much more expensive and a lot less factory loads to choose from if you don't reload compared to the standard WM

Well kind of had my mind made up for me. Have a set of jeep tires I've been trying to sell and a guy just randomly asked if I'd trade them for a 300 win mag. Remington model 700 sps 26" barrel with scope rings and a case. He's shot just under 50 rounds through it so far. I've actually had like 5 gun trade offers for them but that's the one I'm going to take.... so 300 win mag it is! Not the model I was going to go after but if I like it I'll keep it if I don't I'm not out much and can sell it.

Remington 700 SPS models are great rifles. Mine are very accurate, even with cheap hunting ammo.
