I’m in the market for a 338 suppressor. This will be used on a 22” 338 NMI, 28” 338 NMI and a 32” 33XC.

I’ve been looking at the following:

  1. YHM Bad Larry (don’t laugh, it gets good reviews). $799 + $75 DT 3/4-24 HUB mount. 1.7 OD, 7.375” L, 17.1oz. Doesn’t specify if rated for 33XC.
  2. Dead Air Nomax 33. $1199 1.75 OD, 9.3” L, 14oz with mount. Says rated for 33XC.
  3. KGM R338. $1289 1.875 OD, 9.1” L, 19 oz. Website doesn’t mention it but AI says rated for 33XC. Tunable gas relief ports.
  4. TBAC 338 Ultra Gen 2. $1930. 1.875 OD, 10.4” L, 17.2oz. Doesn’t say rated for 33XC but AI says it is. This one really isn’t an option for me right now due to cost but if it’s THAT much better than the others, I’ll save a little longer or sell some stuff. I also would have to buy 2 additional BA brakes at $140 each, whereas the others are direct thread.
I’m currently leaning toward the KGM but I’m not really familiar with that company.

Any experience/feedback would be appreciated.

@Formidilosus?

If you want the TBAC look for a match prize table 100% off cert for sale. I’ve bought em them as low as 1k and you can use them on any can but the 50 cal. You do have to wait for them to make it. My 338 Ultra Gen 2 was forecasted about 6 months. That’s how I bought mine as well. Something to think about.

I think it is also worth looking at the .375 AB Raptor 10. I’ve never used it on a .338, but I think it is worth considering as an option.

my TBAC 338 SR Gen 1 is stupid quiet. Of course, the newer version was introduced just after I received my 338 SR. Zero point of impact shift if I did my part.

People at the range always have that Wow look when they ask what caliber your shooting. I would usually ask them, would you like to hear it unsuppressed?

I would go Thunderbeast if you can.

TBAC 338 ultra is CRAZY quiet.

It’s big but it makes shooting my 300nmi with 245s very similar to my 7saum with my Dominus. Maybe more recoil, maybe not. Close enough where it’s hard to tell, but it’s significantly quieter.

I only have experience with the TBAC 338 Ultra. I have nothing but good to say about it.

Regarding mounts, just go with the Area 419 system and you’ll save $$ over the BA mounts. I suppose you could also just rocksett a BA brake in the can and turn it into a direct thread (that’s what TBAC does on the DT models).

Another vote for the tbac 338 ultra. My wife prefers to shoot my 338 rum with the 338 ultra over a 270 win with a dd lti. That’s saying something.

I have not used the YHM, it’s been a while on the KGM, and not sure by side with the TBAC.

Out of those, the best bet will be the TBAC.

Thanks Form. I was hoping to keep the length down as much as possible but maintaining as much volume as possible. With the KGM being 9”’ish and 1.875, it seemed to meet the what I was thinking.

I have the 22” 338 NMI as a hunting rig, hence the want to keep it as short as possible. I just dropped down from the 28” barrel after carrying it on an elk hunt last year, although it was braked, not suppressed.

Local dealers have all but the TBAC in stock.

Oh, my bad. You said "Any experience/feedback would be appreciated."
I guess I should have clarified, looking for feedback with more than just TBAC. I knew what I was going to get on it.

I also qualified I would consider the TBAC IF someone could say why the TBAC was worth twice the price as well.
