The post I read about it said 2800 fps + with a 225 gr bullet which would be right there with the 338 WM. It uses a standard bolt face which would be a plus if you wanted a 6 lug Weatherby action or had a donor action with a standard bolt face. If neither of those applied, and they don’t for me right now (lefty and already have plans for my donor R700 action), then there would have to be a significant savings in powder for me to choose the RPM over the WM due to the brass/ammo choices available for the WM.

With the RPM case, I keep trying with the idea of another Tikka barrel to go with my 30-06, 7-08, 25-06, 22br.

I haven't looked at 338__ numbers yet to see what comparisons can be made.

The case length of the 6.5 RPM is 2.570” which is longer than a 280AI case. If the 338 is the same length and you were trying to seat bullets out to maximize powder capacity, I think you would wind up with OAL problems in a Tikka.

Info on the rifles the 338 RPM will be available in is now out. The velocity figures I have seen have been based on 24” barrels. I am interested to see what the real world velocity loss will be with the 18” and 20” barrels on the Backcountry line.

Still have not seen velocity numbers on this. I love shorter barrels on rifles for most uses. I would assume we are looking at 150 fps less for the 20 and 200 ish less for the 18, maybe a bit less. The larger calibers allow more of the powder to burn before bullet exit, bigger hole. I am left handed also, they making the 6 lug action in a left handed may push it over the top for me. Weatherby will make sure ammo is available you can count on that.
