For anyone in here with a 338 RCM I thought I’d share this. It appears that Hornady has dumped some 338 RCM ammo on the market, even Midway and a few other online retailers have it in stock according to their website. I’m picking up a few hundred rounds as I’m not sure how much longer this cartridge will stick around for. IMG_5636.jpeg

I have one sitting in the safe collecting dust. I need to get some more ammo while it’s available.

I hope you kept the 338 RCM it a really impressive cartridge to say the least.
It's definitely under appreciated I'm not claiming it's the best cartridge in the world that's simply personal preference and opinion but I really like mine.
My 338 RCM is kinda the opposite of how most 338 RCM's are built with a short barrel.
My 338 RCM has a 27" Krieger barrel built on a Montana Rifle Co model 1999 Action
it actually has a pretty cool backstory.
Anyway it flat out shoots !! I have been shooting the factory hornady superformance 200 grain SST and I am getting almost 3100 FPS with that ammo and it shoots well.
That's pretty impressive for a short 338 cartridge with only around 62 grains of powder.
Hornady discontinued the 200 grain SST load for it now it's only 225 grain loads and it's getting increasingly difficult to find and expensive.
I'm gonna develop a load here soon as I'm about out of the factory ammo my goal is to develop a load using some barnes TTSX 185 and 200 grain bullets and RL-17 and see what this gun is capable of with that combo.
there's not much reloading info on this cartridge as some others and with a barrel this length as the cartridge was developed to achieve near magnum power in a short action and shorter barrel.
I set up the gun to do long range hopefully get to a 1000 yards with it.
I will say it's absolutely pounds the game like you would expect from a 338 mag I don't claim it's more or better than a 338 mag but it's comes close enough for me and it does that with a fair amount less powder in other words it a pretty effective and efficient cartridge any way you look at it.
It's a little like some of the Sherman Wildcat Cartridges mabye not quite as good but brass is easier to come by for the 338 RCM.
