Hey guys I’m looking to see if anybody here has used the 338 eldm in 285 grain for hunting purposes. Im shooting a 338 RUM, load data that I’ve worked up is as follows:

ADG brass, WLRM primer, 94 grains of retumbo. Seated 67k off the lands which makes my base to ogive measurement 2.867”. I have not measured my COAL but it is long and barely fits in a standard REM 700 magazine. 26” bbl. This gives me an average muzzle velocity of 2,870fps ES of 14.9 SD 5.2. 1 MOA group at 100yds. This is just about a max load in MY rifle. Please be cautious if you try it.

I have seen them kill things. They don't seem to be as dramatic as their smaller counterparts.

I’ve heard of some erratic performance on game and I’ve heard people say they’ve worked flawlessly. Never heard anyone talk about the 285’s though

I really wanted to shoot the 285’s out of my rum but I just couldn’t get the darn things to shoot like I knew they should. Finally gave up and bought some Berger 300 EH’s and right away they shot amazingly. So I never actually had a chance to shoot anything with the 285’s.

A bit small, but it may just work

I used the the 270 ELDX (extended Wyatt's 3.8,27"barrel ,Retombo)in mine at about the same speed...not the wallop of a 6 UM, but all the Elk I've shot with them stands in the same spot for a couple seconds and falls over.

I have a hunting load worked up with the 270 ELDX as well. I killed a bear and a mule deer with it so far this year but I wasn’t sure how it would do on elk

Most guys on this site will tell you that’s 155gr too heavy to kill anything so watch out!

I've witnessed a couple.

Bull elk - down/dead instantly.
Muley - Death ran 40ish yards and fell over.

It seems to pound em and my buddy really like it. It also broke his Nightforce scope, not sure if it was the load or a defective scope.
