Hey all,

I have a Remington XP-100R pistol action that I want to do something with. It’s an early-2000s XP-100, essentially an exact clone of a Model 7 but officially classified as a pistol.

It’s currently chambered in 6.5 Grendel and sits in an MDT folding chassis. The 6.5 Grendel is kind of boring, and the rifle is used almost exclusively by my kids.

Since this is a pistol action, I’m considering ordering a 10” .338 ARC prefit barrel with a Remage barrel nut. I’ll be running it suppressed, and ultra-quiet performance is my top priority.

Am I correct that I can use any barrel length I want and simply add a pistol brace to the chassis to keep it legal without a tax stamp? Also, how does ordering a short barrel work when it would be illegal on a rifle action without an NFA tax stamp? Do I have to prove to the smith that I can legally possess it?

Thanks all

Yes you can put on whatever barrel length you want , and the smith shouldn’t care either way, especially if you only show up with the action and barrel
