.308 Win. Barnes 130 TTSX

I shot an average size boar with the 130 ttsx out of a 270 last year at about 100 yds. It went maybe 10 yds. I put it a few inches behind the shoulder.

All about shot placement. In my opinion, most people get worked up on calibers. My rifle shoots the 168 TTSX very accurately and should open fine up to 500 yards. I think the 130 TTSX will also be fine if you rifle shoots in accurately and you hit heart, liver, or double lungs.

I shoot everything with a 130 grain ttsx out of my .270. It worked fine on the two bears I have killed.

I shot a Kudu at about 50 yards and hit the spine at a hard quartering to, all we found was the shank, the petals came off promptly. Its the only Barnes I've had stay in an animal.

All that said, I doubt a .308 will push it fast enough to shed anything.

Yep, pretty common for Barnes bullets to shed petals at high impact velocities.

Like AK Troutbum said above, don't overthink it. A .308 130g ttsx will work just fine.


for comparison, my buddies daughter shoots them with 120g TTSX 7mm-08 on the ground in close spot and stalk. No issues.

I don't know much about bears...
As a user or 150 AB and 130 TTSX on deer, elk, and pronghorn. I have not noticed a difference in effectiveness in putting down an animal.
What I have observed is the 150 AB leaves a much larger exit wound (ruins more meat) than the 130 TTSX.
I love both rounds but 150AB come with on elk hunts and 130TTSX for everything else. Just my preference based on first hand experience.

Never tried used one at short range Im sure either would be great.

2 bears with the 130 ttsx mv@ probably 3100-3200fps (don’t own a chrono)

One hit at 220 yards and the other at 40 yards.

The bear hit at 220 had 2 pencil holes through its ribs and a lot of damage to its lungs.

The bear hit at 40 yards had a pencil hole entrance through the right scapula. The bullet didn’t seem to expand until after it went through the firs shoulder. After that it was devastating. Bad lung damage and severed the offside scapula at the thickest portion right above the lower joint. Lots of meat damage. the bear actually could still run but didn’t go far.

Both bears died within 30 or 40 yards. They were around 6ft black bears. Nice and thick.
