.308 or .300BLK for Compact Bolt Action With 10” Barrel

This is the way for subsonics. Maker Rex & Lehigh Max Expansion bullets are a couple Id actually feel confident getting reliable expansion with.
Subs suck for hunting but these bullets open and perform more like a broadhead than a bullet.
I really gotta pony up and try some of them out, I use the Maker 165g .338 high velocities in my Spectre and they sure as hell work as advertised.

I’m looking into building a .308 or .300BLK bolt action gun with a folding stock and a 10” barrel. I plan to use the MDT LSS chassis and a left handed Tikka action (all of my rifles are Tikkas and I want to keep it that way). I’m torn between buying a .223 T3x and then buying a new barrel or just going with a .308 T3x and having the barrel cut and re threaded. I will only ever shoot subsonic ammo through it and it’ll be for hunting hogs. It’ll be suppressed. I want it to be very quiet so that eliminates an AR. The ammo for both is about the same price for the rounds I’ll be hunting with. What are your opinions on this? I know .300BLK was designed for suppressed short barrels. I guess my question is, will a 10” barrel on a .308 with a 1:10 twist perform the same as a 10” .300BLK 1:7 barrel? It would be cheaper to go the .308 route by $250-$350 (cut and crown/thread vs a new barrel).
I’m building a 308 on a Weatherby 307 action with a 12” 1-5 twist XCaliber Remage barrel putting it in a XLR Atom folding chassis. I’m going to shoot the 300 gr Maker Rex subsonic bullets. This setup is bad ass for subsonic. The bullet itself is longer than a 300 blackout case so it takes up a lot of the empty space in the 308 case. I already have one in a 16” barrel it shoots the 300 grain bullets 1” groups 100 yards. I also shoot subsonic 208 ELD M’s killed several deer around 250 yards it wrecks them. Just a thought you can buy a tikka receiver have Xcaliber make the barrel they are the only barrel maker I found that will do the 1-5 twist. My 12” barrel should be ready in a few weeks. Left to right for bullets 300 bk 200 gr maker Rex, 2 300 gr maker Rex, 2 308 win loaded with 300 gr maker Rex and 2 308 win loaded 208 ELD-M. Left rifle 308 win 16” 1-5 twist barrel XLR Atom folding chassis and right rifle a CVA Scout TD with folding stock 300 BLK with 16” barrel 1-8 twist I shoot the 200 gr maker Rex in it.
PS: I use H110 and trailboss.

That sounds sick

That is sort of true with subsonics where velocity is capped, 9"-10" does seem to be a sweet spot for complete burn and function in a gas gun, otherwise it depends on how one defines significant. With supersonics you get into diminishing returns after 10"-12" and generally run out of gains after 16", maybe 18". Handloading can change that some, but it is a small case.
This is basically what the article I read stated.
