I've been reloading 308 for a while now, just not with partitions. I'm trying to load rounds for an elk trip this October. Bullet is 165 gr partition rem 700 adl 24 in barrel. Once shot brass from my rifle, cci lg rifle primer, overall length 2.77 per nosler data. Do any of you reloaders with experience with this bullet have any tips. Used varget so far and worked up to 45 gr and accuracy was about 3 in at 100 yds and vertically strung. I cannot find load data for rl15 or h4895. I think it is too early yet to give up on the bullet yet Any information your willing to share with me is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Typically the partition shoots pretty decent. They don't win any bc contest, but are usually not overly picky and terminal performance is about as solid as it gets.

How's the velocity and does this gun shoot anything else well?

It is a new addition for me. I have not shot other bullets. I had a box of them so started there. I will have to try some sierra bullets as well since I have some of those as well.

"A Partition is never a mistake." Great bullet for your elk hunt coming up!
Looked in my Nosler #7 reloading book this is what I found.

Most accurate in that particular rifle they used with 165 gr. bullets.
BL-C2. 46.5 grains (max load) 2698 fps most accurate powder with 165 gr. bullet. Federal 210M primers used. The max load of this powder was most accurate of any load and powder Nosler used.

IMR4350. 50.0 grs. was maximum 2792 fps. You know drop the load down and work up though. This charge weight with this bullet was not the most accurate for this powder. A lighter load was.
I like IMR4350 or H4350 and either should work great.

IMR4895 - 43.0 grs. max at 2708 fps

H4895 - 43.5 grs max at 2694 fps

R15 - 44.0 grs. max at 2820 fps

H4895 - 43.5 grs. max at 2694 fps. (This came from the Hodgdon Reloading magazine from 2016.

Start lower and always work up. Hope this helps.

I have found that some guns don't like partitions. If you find that to be the case, look to a Barnes TTSX and either 130 or 150 grains and either Varget or CFE 223 powder.

I load the partition in a 7mm-08. This rifle likes them seated out toward the lands. Won't shoot em worth a hoot otherwise.

Thanks to all for the tips. I'll play round with the seating depth to see if that improves the accuracy of the round a bit.

Another good bullet to try would be a 165 gr. Accubond.

I agree with 6mm on this one. The Accubond will give you Partition like performance with a better BC and for me has never been hard to shoot tiny groups with out of any rifle.

If that is a factory barrel it has a long throat. I’d try seating the bullets out as long as the magazine will allow. 44 ish grains of Varget or RL 15 has worked well with 165 grain bullets in most of the 308s I’ve owned.
