Hey what’s up everyone.
I have a custom tikka build from hell canyon armory in 300wsm. It’s off a Tikka action, hell canyon mag and bottom metal, AG composite alpine hunter stock.
I am wanting to replace the stock and go to a xlr element chassis but I’m confused if I need a long action or short action. On his website it states
“Also It requires replacement of the tikka "short action" bolt stop with a factory "long action" bolt stop (if using with a factory WSM or other short action chambered rifle).”
So do I order a long action xlr chassis?

It depends on how long your OAL is on the cartridges. If you were using Mikes Tikka mags I'm assuming you are over what would fit in a SA XLR. If your OAL is under 2.95 you can use a SA. @XLR is pretty active on here, I'd reach out or give them a call.

I know he throated it to shoot the 215s. I do have one of the mags as well that I use.

I thought it had more to do with the action and the bolt stop.

What is the OAL length of that magazine that you are using right now? The short actions will have a max Internal Length of 2.950 while the long actions have a max internal length of 3.470. I would have to think that he is building them on a long action due to how long your rounds are going to be with the 215s. Also, the magazines that he sells on his website would be for a long action. Give him a call just to be 100% but my money says that you will need a long action chassis inlet.

All Tikka actions are long actions, you just change the bolt stop from short action to long action as calibers if you rebarrel or shoot heavy bullets out of SA calibers. Seems like there would only be one sized Tikka inlet because of that?

You are right
I got it sorted out. Mike emailed me back and I also spoke to XLR as well.

The action inlets are the same but there are different mag wells on the XLR chassis for SA and LA.

I'm running into the same issue with my Tikka .300 wsm if I go the chases route. SA or LA? I was told SA I'm restricted to 2.995 COAL. LA would require a .300 win mag magazine with NO LESS than 3.1 COAL due to feeding issues.
