300WSM Build

you should be able to get 3000fps with 168's
H4350 should almost get you there.
Superformance will get you passed it.
I think i was at 3010fps with 178's and Superformance
The goal is 3,000 to keep me above 2000 fps at 500 yards. At sea level it puts me around 3050fps. I don't think I'll ever be hunting elk at sea level, but I consider it a built-in safety factor lol. Once I start load development we'll see where it lands once the barrel gets here and I start breaking it in. If I can work up a load faster than 3,000 fps avg. while not sacrificing accuracy or stability then I might play with it, but we'll see.

well, Superformance will probably get you 3100fps easy.
I was getting anywhere from 3050 - 3085 with 178's it was quite accurate, but I decided to stay with my tried-and-true load cause i was getting too close to sheep season. I'll probably revisit it this spring and play some more.

Is superformance pretty temp stable?

I took a picture looking at the bottom of the Zeus action. It has been cut out for longer OALs.

My 300 WSM is pushing Berger 215s at 2625 fps with a mild load out of a 22” barrel, should speed up as I am still breaking in the barrel. Would definitely recommend a medium or long action to take advantage of higher BC bullets. I am almost exactly 2000 fps at 500 yds.

The Hunter Long mag with a spacer feeds perfectly. Should I want to change to a different cartridge down the road I am not limited by a short action. (Picture shown is actually a 6.5 WSM round).

I did notice with a 20" barrel it becomes a fire breathing dragon if you don't have a can. I've shot it bare, with a Hellfire brake, and with my TBAC Ultra 9, Gen 2 can. Definitely get a can.
How did the recoil fair with the brake compared to the can?

If you have the stock ordered already isn't your action length already set in stone?

If there is a bottom metal situation that you like in medium length, that would definitely be better than short action.

Are you going to use a can? If not, why limit yourself to 20" if you're concerned about getting enough velocity?

I'd definitely feel better about a full length rail if I intended to use a 2.5-20 nx8 and wasn't already confident about where the mounting surface of would land on the action with a given stock. If looking at impact, 707 would be a viable alternative that should be a little lighter than the 737. That said, the fuzion alpine port and impact NBK still have quite a bit of mounting options compared to the dumb integral rail "light" actions that only have one or two pic slots (example: anti-x and Coupe de grace lightweight).

Yeah I sorta handcuffed myself by buying the SA bastion from Peak 44. if nothing else I’ll sell it on here and go w a different stock. I like the Blacktooth on my latest build but may have to go with a manners or something else.

Appreciate the thought @wind gypsy

My only 300 wsm is limited to 2.9” coal by magazine and I’ve primarily shot 200 eldx so you should still be able to do fine. A 200 eldx carries velocity better than a 168 TTSX though.

Which action are you running? And barrel length?

I plan on running suppressed, or at least having the ability to, though I’m really trying to think thru the brake v suppressor aspect of it for hunting, I’d think the brake knocks off more recoil but then you have to deal with the blast etc. all trade offs I guess
