For a 300 wsm, 175gr lrx. should be able to get about 3100 fps out of them safely on that 20", with a OAL of 2.900 if the throat allows it. I like using Jake at unknown munitions, but have not received satisfactory replies as of recent, most might be due to him being overly busy and/or supply issues. I have also used the guys at choice ammo, they list a 175lrx on their site but should have no issue getting the OAL and powder charge to fit what your needs are. I am a huge Barnes believer, and looking to the future, lead or lead % is going to start fading, monolithics are going to become more the requirement on public/fed lands.

OP.... a little different than your rifle, but I recently got a short 300WSM too- here is what I have found so far with 205 Berger Hunters and 215 Hybrids:

300WSM Long Action
19" Benchmarck
ADG Brass
FED 215m

RL 26
Berger 215- 2750
Berger 205- 2850

H4831SC
Berger 205- 2690

Hope this helps.

Considering you mentioned your limited range of 600yds I would look hard at the 166 hammers with H4350. I shot them out of my old WSM that was built on a SA. I don’t see much benefit with utilizing the high BC long range bullets if <600 is the plan.

I wanted to update this thread… settled on RL26 and Barnes 180 TTSX. Best groups were .35 MOA at 100 and sent 3 downrange to 300 that measured .5 MOA. I could never get the 175 LRX to group. 4831SC had almost as good SD numbers but didn’t group as well. 4350 didn’t work at all. Avg velocity was 2942 out of the 20 inch barrel with the RL26 final load.

Haven’t started load development yet, but thought I’d update everyone that the factory Norma 180s are averaging 2975 out of the 20 inch barrel.
My first 5 shots from my 22" barrel gave me 2859 with these. unsupressed

That's over 100fps faster than I got with a 19in...wonder if they fixed something.

Sounds like the OP found a good load, but I will add my experience for those who are looking for more info on a 20" 300 WSM.

I used the Norma 180 Bondstrikes to break-in the barrel and fireform brass to my chamber. They averaged 2905 fps on my Labradar. Once fired brass expanded to fit my chamber pretty tight. You could feel light resistance closing the bolt on that brass, so I bumped the shoulder back .002

The 175 LRX and H4350 turned out to be a good combination for me.

HCA Tikka T3x - 300WSM
20” Benchmark core - Summit Contour - 1:9 Twist
Chamber is throated for Berger 215s
HCA bottom metal and HCA WSM mags
AB Raptor 6 Stack with 5" reflex suppressor
Factory Tikka trigger with replacement spring set to 2 lbs
NF NSX 2.5-10x42

Norma Brass
Barnes 175gr LRX
CCI 250 primers
67.1 gr H4350
2.415” CBTO
3.085" COAL
Avg 2988 fps
.75 MOA

* started seeing light pressure signs at 67.3 gr of H4350 (3012 fps). Backed off to 67.1 gr and now avg velocity is at 2988 with no pressure signs.

* H4831SC and 180 gr Nosler Accubonds also shoot well out of this rifle. This load needs some more development.

* This rifle is set-up with a long action bolt stop and custom reamer for the 215 Berger.

Hows thar about raptor? I really like the idea of a reflex rather than a long supressor hanging out there. My 22in 300wsm might be a good candidate for chop

I really like it. I didn't want a ton of extra length from the suppressor. The Raptor helped accomplish that with some added volume from the reflex. It does not make a magnum quiet, but it does suppress the sound a significant amount. I can shoot without ear-pro and it does not ring my ears. The side-port break is better at reducing recoil, but the sound and blast is more than I care to deal with. I'm trying to save what's left of my hearing...shot a lot as a kid without ear protection.

My purpose for building the rifle was to have a short-ish, light-ish, suppressed weapon that would do well on backcountry hunts in varied terrain for elk out to 600 yds. No regrets so far.
