300WM or 50cal muzzy...worse kick?

Settle a disagreement, if you will: hubby says my 300 WinMag kicks harder than the new muzzy I'm shooting using a .50cal bullet (he says we're also shooting "hot," fwiw). I think I'd happily shoot a dozen rounds out my 300 vs that giant mule of a muzzy any day. Could it be the shape/dimensions of the muzzy that are bugging me so much? Or am I right, and my muzzy has a harder kick?

It's a quantitative argument, and can easily be settled with a bit of math. The qualitative perception of recoil is due to the fact that it has two components: total force, and velocity. Lower recoil velocity is a result of a heavier weapon. Though the total energy is the same, it is perceived differently by the shooter.
You need a bit of information to settle the argument. For both guns: powder charge weight, bullet weight, muzzle velocity of the projectile, and weight of the gun. Post both and it can be calculated.

Don't forget stock fit.

If your muzzleloader stock is too long/too short/positive comb where your 300 isn't some/any of those things it will make a BIG difference on felt recoil regardless of other factors.

I’ve never shot a 300wm but in my opinion my CVA Accura Mr kicks as hard as my 3 1/2 turkey gun. I hate shooting it.

I'd gladly take the abuse of my cva during at an 800lb bull over a 3.5" shotty load at any bird. Lol. Still not a fan of either

They're almost identical, with the MZ having higher recoil velocity. I made assumptions for the powder charge in the 300 WM and the muzzle velocity of the muzzleloader.
So it will come down to personal perception.

As one who owns multiples of both .50 cal muzzleloaders and .300 Win Mags it really does come down to the rifle. I'm not overly recoil sensitive and regularly shot 25 rounds out of one or the other in a bench session. When shooting most of my .300 WMs vs my .50 cals, I would say the .300's have less felt recoil. However, I do have one .300 WM that I only shoot 165 grain bullets in it to keep the recoil tolerable.

I hate shooting my 3006 (150 gr at 2900 fps) and have no issues shooting .50 Cal Optima with 100 gr 777 and various bullets and sabots. That's just me.

There's so many variables on the muzzleloader side. When I'm goofing at the range shooting steel, I'll load 60 grains of Pyrodex and a patched ball, and the rifle is really pleasant to shoot. Load the same rifle with 110 grains of Pyrodex and a 360 grain Minie ball, and it's a different story.

I’d say my .50 cal kicks harder, but it’s also barely 6 pounds and I put 105 grains of powder behind a 250 grain bullet.

Most guys I’ve seen walking around here with a 300 win mag have painfully heavy howitzer-looking rifles that don’t recoil much.

I know my muzzleloader kicks harder than my 300wm. Pushing a 275 at 2800fps. In the win mag, I’m pushing a 180 at 3200.
