3000cu in pack

ok I am looking for a 3000 cu.in. pack for a sheep hunt that I can use on horseback. what do you use and why. I have a mr 6500 that I was going to use but my guide said I don't need on that big since we are using horses. So now I am starting over again on packs. Any thoughts on this is greatly appreciated.

I would just use what you have and put the money into other needs. No reason to just get a pack when you have one that will work because an outfitter says you don't need that much space or find a MR pack bag that will fit your existing frame. Otherwise you might as well sell the MR and get a Kifaru system the big 7k bag compresses down smaller then an Eberlestock X2 which is an 1800ci pack.

i was thinking of a smaller mr pack that will go on my nice frame but not sure on riding with it. my price range is around 300. Is a internal frame going to be better or external.

Before you do anything, get on a horse with your existing pack with a load that you would carry on a sheep hunt. I would be concerned about frame length especially when you are going down a steeper mountain. Based on the horseback sheep hunts that I have done, you may not want or need a big pack. What may work well for a backpack hunt won't necessarily work for a horseback hunt, even if it is compressed. Don't know what to suggest as I used a piece of s**t Badlands pack (that I still use for little duty applications) that really sucks with a big load.

Longbow!!! It's really my favorite bag that I've ever run across, 189 straight from mystery ranch, can probably find it cheaper on a classified somewhere.

The nice will be a bit overboard, but you'll use the hell out of the Longbow for years to come.

Works fine on a horse as well.

I would get the Metcalf, and not use the top lid. I like the side zip better than the trizip design, but that is preference.

That's a great idea as well, but the Metcalf will have a taller frame. That's always a bonus.

Buy the longbow or Metcalf bag to put on your NICE frame. Both are great bags and both will be good for riding on a horse.

You will get more organization out of the 2400 cu-in longbow, where as you'll get more room and a more compressible bag with the 3600 cu-in Metcalf, plus it's almost a pound lighter than the longbow when you run it without the day pack lid.

I use the Longbow on my Bikini frame. Absolutely love the Longbow pack! I easily carry 3 days of gear in it. I can add a medium pod if more space is needed.

I am going with the longbow. I tried my nice frame on my saddle and it should work just fine. Thanks for all the responses.

hammer, do mind posting a pic and explaining how you get the longbow on the bikini frame. I've met a crossroad with my packs. Ive got a longbow nice frame and original t2 that doesn't come off the frame. I love the longbow but need a little more lift/comfort from kifaru. It may solve my problem using a bikini frame with my longbow with the ability to put meat between the two when I get an animal down.

The Longbow has a "sleeve" up top which just slides over the bikini frame. I put two slits in it to run the load lifter straps out of. I plan on having someone sew them but for now they are fine. The straps on the longbow line up fairly well with the bikini attachments. You will just need a few split buckle sets to secure everything. I ran the upper DELTA strap up to the pack which also works perfect. The longbow is a bit short for the frame but it is perfectly fine as I put my quilt, pad, and shelter below the pack and held perfectly in place with a Grabit. For two different brands, they work very well together. Except for cutting the two load lifter holes, nothing has to be done to make it work.
