Sierra Heavy TMK 6MM Testing

I’ve used JBMs in the past for plastic tipped bullets but I’m just WAG’ing and extrapolating from results with 106 TAP that is a similar aggressive profile bullet.

Be interested in what the calc says at sea level DAs and a little below.

Edit: crap, didn’t see you were just asking about DA..NOAA has a DA calculator. I’ve seen graphs on here with elevation and temp correlations. I just use kestrel or RF.

I’m sub 1.5 sg according to AB at -500 yesterday. That’s in a 7.5 twist. In the slower stuff I think a 7 twist isn’t going to hurt any.

Well the 107’s shoot great first 5 round were all touching well under a moa, it was to simple so started shooting some distance as it got boring haha. Dialed a quick dope and went 5 for 5 at 812. One thing I did notice with the same load I had for the 109’s and n570 the pressure was way less and about 100fps slower. Going to load up some with n565 this week and try to see if I can hit pressure and see where the speed lands. Excited for the 116’s.

I need 1 full grain of powder over a 109 LRHT to reach the same speeds with the 107’s. Not reach pressure, but just the same speeds.

Shot 42.5 H4350 and 44.5gr. N555 both at 3110fps out of 26” with zero pressure issues. It’s a beefy defiance action though.

With that said, they just aren’t quite stacking like the Berger’s, so I’m going to sell my remaining lot of 107’s and wait for the 116’s.

On a saami chamber I’d want a little more bearing surface (assuming thats what the 116 has)

Of course this is only speculation, but if I were in your shoes I’d be buying 116s

I think the concensus is that it’s likely overkill for anything short of giraffe, and you should stick to a real man’s gun shooting a man’s caliber, aka 223.

Jk. I think it’s a shoot the one that’s available and groups the best in your rifle type situation at this point.

As more data for how these bullets seem to “tune” becomes available, we might be able to reach a more nuanced recommendation. But for now the are so new, there’s no way anybody has reached any sort of conclusion about the differences between them.

i was getting slightly stiff bolt lift on Tikka action at 41.5 gr H4350, MRC didn't change

That’s going to entirely be the issue with the 107 in a saami creed chamber. It’s either going to shoot with a lot of jump or not, there is no ability to use length.

Again this may not matter at all, especially with this bullet, but we will see. The 116 looks like it has a lot more bearing surface.

This is all really getting nit picky, we have been jamming bullets way down the case with 6.5cm for a very long time and they seem to shoot awesome.

In my belief a barrel either likes the bullet or it dosnt, I don’t think your going to tune a terrible load to a good one. Hence why I threw one random charge with one seating depth and shot it.

How deep is the 107 seated vs the 109? I'm getting ready to load up a bunch this week and have been shooting the 108's with 42gr of H4350, I have a M+ mag in the mail for the .243. I will be able to shoot the 107's just off of the lands and not have to stuff the bullet so deep like if I were to use the regular .243 mag. which would have required a .110+ jump at mag lenght.
