New to reloading starting from starch. I have reloaded round that other have found the load for me

This gun will be for nrl hunter and targets

Looking at either the 215 hybrids or 185 juggernauts

Adg 300 wsm brass cci br2

Yes, in which bullet would be better

I’m also just learning that the biggest bullet is not always the best to go through the transonic range

IIRC @Karl B has a good bit of 300 wsm handloading experience.

I've got a 300wsm in the works and I have components but the barreled action in still at the smith so I haven't had a chance to do any load development yet.

The 215's are an awesome bullet and I use it in my 30 Nosler, smoked a Nilgai last week with that combo. I wouldn't want the recoil of those in a 300wsm...I'd run the 185's first and see how those do before I jumped to the 215.

Not sure what the rules are for NRL Hunter but that seems like a big cartridge and highly expensive to feed. 😂

With that said, I would look at the 185gr hybrid targets.

I will admit to being completely ignorant about shooting games, but why shoot a Magnum cartridge at targets? Why burn up all that powder and waste such expensive components? Not to mention all the recoil. Why not shoot something more cost-effective and easier to deal with?

You have to meet power factor and I have a 65 Creedmoor and I thought that was the next logical step 300 wsm for between 1200 and 2000 and for windy days

Personally, I'd look at a mild loaded 200.20x or 208 LRHT for that application. 215s should be good too.

If you're going to deal with that kind of recoil, id want more BC than a 185 Jugg.

You'd have to shoot either a real long ways at 300 WSM velocity to get into transonic.

Also, rest of the rifle better be light if you're going to make weight with a 26" MTU contour.

I run the 208 in my 24.3” Tikka with N555 powder. I did slightly lengthen the throat on it to seat the bullet better. It runs 2925 and I made hits at a mile with it.

Your 6.5 creedmoor should make power factor, unless it is a short barrel or slow twist for some reason. Most 143 grain bullets and above will meet power factor. If you are trying to he competitive, a higher power factor will win for a tie breaker.
As for the 300 wsm. I have a 22"Ace barreled Tikka from Unknown. Im shooting 212 eldx with 66.2 grains of N560. Im only getting about 2725 for velocity, before I ran into some pressure. After my first 200 rounds, I will move up to N570, and should be able to get 2850 or so. If I was you, I would run a 190 or so bullet at some moderate velocities to help with recoil a bit and save some powder and barrel life. And get that rifle right to 16lbs! I think it will still be a chore shooting a 300wsm for a two day match, but its better than sitting on the couch!

My 300wsm shoots 215's extremely well. This is an 8 shot group, I shot last night. It kills anything i point it at. I do make sure to clean out the tips though.

I shoot a ton of 300WSM out to 1,000+ and as others have mentioned, for that recoil I would take the juggernaut off the list. Lotta other choices will give you more BC without too much recoil gain.

Mag length and throat length might play in so might be useful to grab a few handfuls of bullets and make some dummies up. When you're running heavy for caliber sometimes powder room becomes an issue also. Easiest way forward is grab a few candidate bullets and start working up dummies to check feeding and jump, then building loads. But I'd start at something with a G1 in the .600's. Bergers being a good choice though I also worked up a 212 ELDX load for a 300 WSM. 2700 fps, not too fast, but the bullets were cheap, they bucked the wind, and the load shot in the 0.1s. That was with N565. Which def had a pretty small node but it worked out.
