300 WSM load shooting heavies

Mike just finished a rifle for me this week and I got it to the rage for the first shots today; 24” with break. Thanks to this thread, I had a good place to start.

66.5 grains 4831sc
200 grain eldx
CCI 250’s
2.3” (comparator) COL
2910 FPS

4-shots touching @100 yards first time out. I am toning to keep messing around with 205 Berger’s and 200 Eldx, but I am very happy

You’ll see a good speed bump the more you shoot, about 130-150rds, i got over 100fps faster from new to that.

My 300 WSM loves 7828SSC with 200 gr eld-x’s I’m running a 21” barrel suppressed and getting 2850 out of it. I’m running Norma brass. It’s expensive but I feel it’s justified. I run a slightly compressed load (66.5 gr) and am not showing any pressure signs or getting heavy bolt lift. The node seems pretty wide on my particular rifle. May be worth a shot

I hit a pretty good single digit SD this weekend with 210VLDH and 67.0gr 7828SSC at 2785. A-bolt eclipse 26". No pressure signs, but the SD fell apart at 2850 and 68.3. 70deg and 1150'elevation. That was seated pretty short to mag length.

I just did a pressure test on my 300 WSM. 2770 fps with H4350 and 200.20x out of a 20” barrel. It would go faster but this is looking like to node

Bumping this thread, just picked up a hells canyon built .300 WSM. I have lots of vv N165, 212 eldx and cci 250’s, anyone play with this powder and heavies in a .300wsm?

Just tried to find pressure with 212 eldx out of my 20” 300 WSM yesterday. Seems to like H4831 and I got to 2665 fps without pressure. Loaded it a bit hotter with the goal of getting around 2700 fps

Edit: and plan to shoot those hotter loads tomorrow. However, after running the numbers, it still puts effective hunting range with that bullet at 2665 out to 800 yds. Pretty good for such an anemic velocity.

It’s not heavy but a 160 hammer over IMR 4831 has me right around 3300. Not sure the distance you are going to hunt but this puts me right a 1.9mil at 500yrds. Flat and hits like lightning, allows for a larger error of margin.

This rifle also shot rl 17 well with 215s....it's a 21" proof 10tw.

Does anyone have a bullet they like more than the Federal 200 Terminal Ascent? I heard Remi Warren rave about it on the Vortex podcast and am wondering if I should even bother reloading for a gun I probably won’t shoot over 50 rounds a year through.

178gr ELDX with 64gr H4350 has been the ticket on the last 4 of my 300wsm.
3020fps with a 24" tube. my current 300wsm is 20" and i'm getting 2915fps.

If you don't want to reload, Nosler trophy grade 180gr Accubonds have been accurate in all the 300wsm I've owned when im being lazy and don't reload.
