300 WSM load recommendation

For those familiar with reloading the 300 wsm, where did you guys end up with load wise? Trying to cut the learning curve a bit and save material.

When I had my 300WSM, I liked either 180 Accubond or 180 E-tip. I used H4350 for powder because that's what I had at the time. Being a very consistent powder, I'd consider that again. I know guys might prefer heavier bullets but the 180s do a proper job of killing. I was never able to load as fast as I got from factory ammo but much more consistent.

Don't skimp out on loading for your own rifle that's not a place I'd shortcut.

Thanks for the input. I take it you don't do much reloading. When loading for a new cartridge you find that certain cartridges do better with certain loads ie, fast powders vs slower powders, heavy bullets vs light, standard primers vs magnum. So when reloading for a new cartridge it is nice to see what others have found to work better and eliminate wasting unnecessary reloading components. Thanks!

Two different 300 WSM's I worked with did really well with H 4831 sc and 180's speeds were around 2950 fps. H 4350 worked too but not quite as well however others have done well with it. A load that worked surprisingly well was RL 15 with a bunch of different 165's. Pretty mild recoil with this load and speed a bit over 3000 fps. Got my data from Nosler and had my best results around their max loads.

I reload for about 15 cartridges with a whole host of powders. I don't share data because people misuse it and it's not safe especially if I'm up against max. Take your ASSumptions elsewhere.

I am using Ramshot for heavy bullets 180,200gr. and H100V for lighter bullets 168gr Sierra .

My Winchester model 70 loves 185 Berger classic hunters and IMR 4350. High left was first 2 shots. Made adjustment and fired 5 more rounds. Target was at 100 yards.

I’ve had several 300 wsm’s shoot the 180’s in the 3025-3050 window very accurately (24” barrels). Used to use H4350, but have switched to RL16.

Did you see that Lapua is going to start making 300wsm brass?

Also, I assume you’re loading for a hunting rifle? My latest 300wsm is a savage ultralight that I bought for my younger son. Being a short action, 7.75 lbs all-in, 24” barrel with a SAAMI throat, it’s best suited for the mid-weight 180 grain bullets.

I’ve been shooting the 180 Elite Hunter, but if it were a full custom with a longer throat, 26” barrel, I would probably look to shoot a heavier 200+ grain bullet. I’ve had such good luck with RL16 I would still use that powder over something a bit slower. It just works great in the 300wsm.

For 180s H4350 is your huckleberry.
For the heavies like 200 and 208 the h4381sc and rl17 seem to be the powders of choice.

I got outstanding results from Win Brass, Fed 215M, 64gr Hunter, 168 TTSX out of a Kimber 8400 300WSM. Right at 3050fps.

Shot some 180gr E-TIP AND 180gr Accubond load ladders yesterday. H4350 powder Win LR primer. Got a great node on the e-tips from 63.5-64.5 gr going sub moa and roughly 3045fps on the upper end. Accubonds liked 62gr at about 2875fps. That node opened up above 63gr.

That is factory length Superlite, about 1 grain below max charge

H4350, RL16, N555 behind a 180 class bullet.

I use H4831 behind 200s. RL23 or the above powders would work well too.
