300 wsm bullet

I’m running 180 accubonds at 2960 out of a 20.5 in barrel. Reloader 17 and adg brass. No pressure signs.
Gets me to 680 above 1800fps. I consider 700 my max distance.
Elk hate accubonds
I’ve considered this as well. But honestly if I’m going to run the 180 I’ll probably stay with the EH as it’s wildly accurate from this rifle. I tend to try and stay away from RL17 (I do have a few pounds though) as our temp sway during hunting season gets wild here. Some days are 10, some days are 80

I’ve seen the scenar a ton, just a lot of mixed reviews where I read. Seems they need a higher impact velocity than other match bullets.
I came across the same thing, but with a 20” Barrled WSM you should be able to drive them pretty hard to get you a good long ways out there at a modest DA

I may still give them a shot. I have 200 berger 168 classic hunters on the way (found them on sale for a great price, and if they don't work in this I may shoot them from my 16" BLR .308). Once it cools down again I may also work a load with 180 Accubonds and RL17 (though i really would like to try the 168 ABLR, even though I have yet to own a rifle the ABLR will shoot in, mabye this is the one)

I have an 18” and played the same game you are working on. Tried 168vld, 180eh, 185jugg and 200.20x all Berger. Shockingly the 200.20x with N560 is doing to best for me running lower 2700’s. Still doing a little testing with the 185 Jugg trying to land in the low to mid 2800’s with it. The 168vld did great but if you are expecting longer shots the 185 and 200 win in the wind.

What would be the maximum impact velocity for a Berger then? I’ve seen plenty of results on here at over 2800-2900 impact with sufficient penetration. The 180 EH shoots great at a muzzle of 2900 fps, I imagine I’ll be right around 3k muzzle with the 168 which would put it right around 2830 at 100 and 2675 at 200.
I shot a deer at 70yds with a muzzle velocity of ~2930. The 180 elite hunters I found were flat and caught by the hide on the opposite side.

I believe if you want greater penetration, you need to decrease velocity by increasing bullet mass rather than decreasing it.

Hrm, you already use monos and you’re looking for a lower recoil option- I’d try a reduced load with something like Retumbo and a 130gr ttsx. Hodgdon RLDC has some starting options for a 150gr copper in a 300 win mag for reduced recoil. Or just call Barnes and they’ll give you some ideas.

I’m not stuck on monos at all. I simply like how the hammers work and they were accurate. They’ve just gotten too expensive to be worth it for something I shoot regularly. Not looking for a reduced load, just something with a bit less recoil, otherwise I’ll just drop to my .308. This rifle will either be rebarreled into a 25/6 or sold and something built on one. Just don’t see it happening this season. I may end up just running the 180 at 2900 for this season and calling it a day.

Well shoot- I’d just run a 308 then. Easy to shoot and easy to find accurate loads for.

My .308 is a 16” browning lever gun. Though it is quite accurate for the platform, I’m just a lot more comfortable behind a bolt rifle. 168 Berger at 2500 fps does plenty for 400 yards at my elevation, and it goes with me on every hunting trip if we get into heavy woods or a rifle goes down.
