What did you have your barrel threaded to? I'm looking at doing exactly this to a 300 wsm t3x SS superlite or t3x SS lite (whichever I can get my hands on first), then throwing my suppressor on it. I have read differing opinions on there being enough meat on these specific barrels to thread and get enough of a shoulder for a suppressor.

I went with 9/16″-24 on the 300WSM. I also have a 7mm rem mag tikka and did the 1/2X28 on that one because the bore was smaller and there was more steel. It has a little more shoulder for the mount to tighten up too but I check to make sure that thing is tight no matter what its on pretty frequently. I havent had any issues with it backing off the 300 WSM or the 7mm barrel. I also dont shoot long strings with these rifles and havent had any problems around the muzzle as of yet.

This has become a very useful and informative thread! After talking with my gunsmith, I ended up going with 2 1/2 cut off and 1/2 x 28 threads. Until my suppressor gets out of jail, I’ll be running the Area 419 Hellfire brake. I hope to work up rounds with TTSX to get velocity back up to 3000 - 3050. Maybe, someday, I’ll be as good behind the trigger as 308ghost and get get results like that out of the 300wsm!

What is your barrel length after taking the 2.5 inches off? I'm waiting to get my hands on either a t3x lite from my local gun shop or a superlite from sportsmans, I'll buy whichever comes available first. Initially I thought I'd cut the lite down to 22 inches then thread, or just leave the superlite at 22 inches and thread, but after reading 308ghost's results I'm considering cutting down to 20 if I end up with a lite (20 is the shortest I can go with my can).

You might want to consider cutting it again with 9/16 threads. TBAC won’t warranty a can that was mounted to 1/2” threads on a .308” caliber barrel. I ran the question by dead air for my 300 wyb and they said minimum would be 9/16” threads. TBAC has a nice chart showing thread dimensions and minimum shoulder OD.

I planned to do this with a t3x lite. Now I can’t find one in stock. Do you know if barrel diameter permits a 5/8-24

Check with member LEO Outfitters, he had a t3x lite and t3x lite stainless in 300wsm for sale not long ago.

This thread is so inspiring that I had to sign up to the site ! Thanks Japes4.
I'm looking at doing something similar and want a shortish allrounder (22" + brake) that I can take deer with between 100-200yds and ring some steel at 600. I'm used to 300WM (too long) and 308...(not enough punch)

Don't want to hijack the thread but it appears you guys would know the best projectile to use for this caliber.
Anyone using Hornady InterBond 165s in 300WSM?
OR, anyone had a nightmare trying to get the 190 ABLRs to group ?
in my 20" barrel 300wsm im running 178gr eldx at 2920fps that gives me 1500ft-lbs at 650 yards.
ive also used the 190gr ALBR and 180 accubonds with good success.
for what your wanting to do you can probably use just about any decent bullet in the 165gr-200gr category

You like those 178’s? I want to try those some time my self. Some RL 16 or 23 and a fed 210 would be killer I think. Do you think they shoot better than the 190 ABLR?

I’d re read some of the above and talk to your suppressor company about the thread.

A .308 cal barrel threaded 1/2” leaves only .096” of steel in the wall.

In regards to advise for future readers. Some of the most respected gunsmiths and suppressor manufacturers reccomend NOT threading a 308 barrel 1/2”.

Was running a 20”(22” w brake) barrel 300 wsm shooting 212 eldx at 2775. Thing had some recoil but it’d hit hard hard . That was a fairly hot load but no signs of pressure.

Surprised to see this thread still going! Just to update, I went back and forth with my gunsmith regarding the 1/2” threading. He seemed very confident in it holding up, but I think I gave in a bit and should have pushed back more. I agree with previous posts and If I had to do it all over again, I’d take it to another smith that would jump up in thread size and use some thread adapters.

All that being said, the gun has shot great and been very reliable shooting some 168 gr TTSX hand loads at around 3010 FPS. Pleased with the length and feel of the gun.

After reading this thread and a few others several months ago I bought a Tikka 300wsm and had silencer central cut it down to 18" and threaded to 9/16-24. I put a radial brake on there while I wait for my TBAC to get out of jail.

The velocities I'm getting with H4350 are:
3039fps with HH160
2686fps with terminal Ascent 175
2648fps with accubond 180

Thats a pretty sharp drop in velocity, with a 26” barrel I’m getting 2963fps with 215’s out of my 300wsm.

Yea I have no complaints about the 178’s I’ve taken a couple mountain Goats, black bears, and elk with them and they have all stopped in their tracks with 1 shot.

I think going from 20-18” is where you see a huge drop in velocity, my ridge line (24”) I was getting 3025fps with 178gr where as my 20” I’m doing 2920 with h4350

When I was looking for a lighter sheep, mtn goat/mtn rifle I had it narrowed down to Tikka or Sako. I ended up with a Sako Finnlight so is super light for hauling up and down the hills. It barely kick so no need for a suppressor/muzzlebreak!

Anyone care to share there 300wsm load recipes. I’m getting back out today to retest some loads. I have a thread discussing the issues already and would like to see what others are using brass and powder, and charge weights.
I don’t think I’m going to be happy with what I have loaded up today. Velocity is going to be too low I feel, but too much pressure signs where I was.

I've started few latters on my 21" Fierce Fury (Sako 85) with 180gr Nosler BT Silvertip
Most accurate was H4350 followed by H4831 than Superformance which was least accurate of the bunch, but fastest

What bullet are you using?
H4350, H4831sc, and H100V will be the best powders,
