I’m a 300 win mag fan for big game. With that said if you want to go lighter maybe go 6 creedmoor. Shooting the 108 ELDm pretty sweet setup for whitetails

Between always using a 300 WM or 300 RUM for a while, I definitely got used to them being dead right there.
I understand that! I was using a 30-06 for 40+ yrs and maybe tracked 4 shot with it. All the others just kinda fell over with some kind of dramatic head tosses or backflips. It grows on you and then one runs and yer like, did I miss? Walk over and plenty of blood - nope, just a runner.

Kimber Hunters weigh sub 6 pounds bare rifle and are reasonably priced. 6.5 cm or 308 winny are probably the most practical due to factory ammo availability. Performance between the 3(6.5cm, 7mm08, 308) would all be negligible for what you're hunting. 6.5 PRC might have some "cool factor" and will pack more punch, but ammo availability could be an issue. Personally I'd roll with a 7 PRC over the 6.5 PRC if choosing between the two, based on ballistics. But thats even newer and ammo availability is even more of an issue.

.308 or 7mm-08; leave the 6.5-man bun on the shelf. But I am getting old and ornery…lol

I am all set for what you are looking for in my 7mm08. Probably a lifetime supply of ammo.
If I already wasn't setup I would go with a 6.5 CM. Its clear the industry has got behind it.
So choice of ammo or components should be good for a long while. I confess I haven't read all
the posts.

I would get an old caliber that is no longer cool. .270 or .308 ammo will be way easier to find.

If you don't reload 6.5 Creedmoor is a very, very good option. Factory ammo has become abundant. The round has plenty enough power for Whitetail, and is very soft shooting.

Personally I'm partial to 7mm-08 Rem and that's what I mostly use (though I do have a 6.5 Creed in the safe), but factory ammo is a little less plentiful there.

For hogs and whitetail with factory ammo? 6 Creedmoor if your desired rifle comes with that chambering, otherwise 243.

Will kill em all deader than needed and kick you less than 6.5, 7-08, 308, etc while being flatter.
