Greetings,

New reloader here. Currently reloading my 300 Weatherby Mag with 200gr Nosler Accubonds w/ H1000. Testing batches from 79-85 gr batches. I'm considering lowering the bullet grain weight for some more speed. I'm also considering the Federal Terminal Accent bullets. I would like to share recipes and any experience with the Federals.

V/R,

You may want to try IMR7828 for a little more velocity. You are on the right track with those 200 gr. ACCUBONDS in your 300 Weatherby especially if they group well. I also like the Partitions in my 300.

I'd like to get my hands on some, the SSC, I just can't find it anywhere

Yeah, I haven't seen it in quite awhile. I've stocked up on the regular IMR 7828. It works fine. I just finish off each cartridge with the powder trickler.

IMR 7828 is my go-to for my M70 SM Classic 300 Win Mag. When fire lapping years ago, I got over zealous apparently and extended the throat out to where I discovered I could seat the Barnes 180 XBT (yeah, a long time ago if you remember that bullet) to 3.600" with room to spare.

So, shortened the bolt stop (to handle full magnum length cartridges), drilled out the sheet metal filler rivets and removed the filler in the magazine box to accept 3.600" cartridges and put in a magnum length follower. It added a good amount of powder space and 7828 (worked up to a not published charge) then pushed the 180 XBT to 3080 fps from the 26" bbl.

My "poor man's" Weatherby took my first bull, biggest muley and numerous whitetails. All DRT (down right there) or in case of the Bull at 324 yds in 20 yds. Even the old Barnes bullets never "failed"... My $.02 is drop down in weight (165/168 gr) to a mono, up the speed and go hunt.

Anyway, point being when you find it, 7828 is a pretty solid choice with 180/200 class bullets. In the meantime, H1000 since you have it is already one of/the best, so good choice. Do your testing, try different lighter bullets with your H1000 (still a top powder for the lighter weights) for some speed and rest well at night that you are on the right track, IMO.

My 300 bee likes 180gr Accubonds, I've always shot 180 partitions (factory ammo) then started handloading the Accubonds. I'm using Retumbo (don't recall exact charge) but pushing the 180's 3150fps and I'm not at max charge as I shoot for accuracy over fps. I had used 7828 as well but got tired of trying to find it, I use Retumbo in my 6.5-300 bee so I always have it on hand.

@Carwash what rifle and barrel twist are you shooting the 300 Weatherby in? My Mark V Accumark loved the 200 grain accubonds and 200 Barnes LRX. I ran RL23 for powder. My rifle did not like the lighter bullets so I stayed with the 200’s.
H1000 is a very temp stable powder. I would stick with that. 7828SSC mentioned previously is good but not nearly as temp stable.
If you have the barrel twist for it, Berger 215’s might be worth a look.
