300 RUM muzzle brake or suppressor?

I have a Fierce CT Rage that im thinking about putting a can on. I currently have the fierce side port muzzle brake on it and am not super impressed with the amount of recoil im still getting. I know its a lot to ask of an ultralight magnum caliber, but im hoping to tame it down a little more. Ive heard that suppressors can reduce recoil, but im not sure if they can reduce more than or equal to a muzzle brake. I also wonder if doing a radial brake like what christenson makes would be a good idea.

As far as suppressors on magnum cartridges, i was looking at the AB Raptor... anybody have experience with them? The reflex that goes over the barrel seems interesting... not sure if its a gimmick or not. I would love to be able to take a shot without earplugs when hunting and not get my bell rung.

There is only one right answer.

Look at the OG L by Unknown. It is great on my 7 short mag, but who knows about RUM.

Radial brakes do very little recoil reduction but are excellent at dispersing dirt into the atmosphere.

An aggressive side port brake is the best way to reduce recoil. It also creates an unbearable blast wave that shakes your brain.

The AB Raptor 10 w/ 5” reflex is probably the quietest option you will find among the 7” muzzle forward options. At 16.3 ounces, it will also help tame the recoil some. AB says that the 5” reflex portion is equivalent to two more baffles. It also gives a flatter tone or pitch than the muzzle forward cans. As the shooter, you probably won’t notice this, but everyone around you probably will.

The largest cartridge on which I have used my Raptor 10 is a .270. It turns it into a pussycat, but at the expense of being long and heavy. For that reason, I prefer the .30 caliber OG on my .270. To me, the OG is probably best on a 20-22” .308, but it would take some of the noise off a magnum. It would not be my first choice for your rifle.

I also own the Raptor 8 w/ 3” reflex. It’s a very good choice as well for something like a .30-06, but I would personally choose the 10 for a magnum.

I’m in central Virginia. If you are anywhere near me, I’d be happy to let you try mine out at a nearby range.

The OG L sounds nicer on a magnum than the OG. The extra volume takes the edge off compared to the OG.

I have a terminator on my sendero. It kicks ass for what it is. Muzzle blast makes it rather exhausting to shoot very much though.

I have radial brake i had made by gunsmith for my 300 RUM. Really tamed recoil down alot on Rem 700 with synthetic stock. Night and day difference.. but yes Loud...

I do not have a suppressor big enough for my 300 RUM unfortunately to compare.

I was in the same situation you were, not happy with my NIX muzzle brake on a lightweight Fierce 300 PRC. I picked up a salmon river solutions TI 4 port and it was a game changer. Twice the recoil reduction. If you don’t like the recoil with the NIX brake you really won’t like it with any suppressor…

I have a raptor 8 with the reflex and its a great can that I really like. That being said my 300 rum has a SRS 5 port ti pro brake on it and I love it. Before the srs I had a different side port brake on it and it was still a handful. The ti pro honestly makes it comfortable to shoot and I would highly recommend it.

I have not used bigger cans than the raptor 8 extensively so take this for what its worth but my experience is that with cartridges like the 300 rum the brake is much preferable to me from a shooting perspective. Suppressors that ive tried dont seem to cut enough recoil to make it tolerable so I lean towards a brake.
