Length is more important than weight - as the long bullets, that have good BCs, take up a lot of room in those cases. When comparing velocities it gets confusing because of this or that. SAAMI pressure barrels and measured velocities are more uniform than uncle Todd’s handloads in a mega magnum compared with someone else’s factory loads in a Proffit Reeping Cartridge in a completely different brand of rifle. Pressure barrels are closer to match barrels than typical cheap factory production tubes, but for better or worse it’s nice seeing professionally tested loads in multiple cartridges. Here’s the SAAMI pressure data for a few big 300 mags and it matches what I’d expect: 200 gr 300 PRC is about 2,800 fps, 300 Wby 2,900 fps, and 300 Rum about 3,000 fps.

Try a long (lrx, ablr, eldm, eldx) bullet for a normal throat length, like the OP would use
