300 Blackout for deer

Who's got good real world experience using the .300 Blackout for deer? I've got access to an area that's all close range shooting, nothing past 150 yards and most of it will be inside of 75. Taking the Creed or the .308 is excessive.

killed at least 20 with SubX ammo and 300BLK with mine from 100 or less. 11" barrel. Killed 5 others with 110gr Hornady ammo, non-subsonic. I like to shoot them right up the top of the front leg. DRT usually. Not much blood trail and they run like a mfkr with a lung shot.

My daughter has one in an AR platform that she uses.
Havent had a chance to take anything with it yet. But its shooting 125 Sierra Pro Hunters and it shoots them well.

My son hunted this year with an AR .300 Blackout where closer shots are the norm. Last weekend we hunted a Soybean field edge and he harvested a 100 # Doe and a nice 8 Point. The doe was right at 100 yards but the Buck was crossing the field at 185 yards. I believe his total for the years so far is 8 does and 2 Bucks.

He rolls his own and is using 150 grain SST bullets. Whatever his recipe is, works. What surprises the heck of me is that most of his kills are pass throughs. 20-30 yards is the average run with 1 of the Bucks being a bang flop.

I will say that he is an excellent shot however, I've been pleasantly surprised at the killing power.

Yeah, debating the CVA Scout 14" pistol as an option too.... or re-barreling one of the .223 rifles I have.... or just buying another rifle. Too many choices.

I wish the CVA Scout pistol was shorter than 14 inches. In my opinion, there doesn’t seem to be too much benefit going from 16 inches for the rifle to 14 inches with the pistol. I’d prefer 12 inches or shorter and then file the form with the ATF and convert the pistol to a rifle.

My brother killed this one using Winchester XP 150gr. One shot went through the back strap and three went in the neck. Shots are claimed to be 70yards and in. Based the damage I saw I would assume it would have worked well with one in the boiler room.

If it were me and I’d probably step to 100-120 coppers.

My brother and I have been using the sub-x this year on 3 deer. All 3 deer were hit through the front shoulder or neck and dropped on the spot. The problem is that each of them were still alive after awhile and required a 2nd shot. If I am going to keep using the 300 BO, I'm probably only shooting supers or loads with 190 grn Maker Rex

My buddy shot a doe on our place a couple years ago with his 300 BO. I've got no idea what bullet type or grain. Made a great 50-75 shot, pass through the lungs. She ran about 100 yards into some thick planted pines. No real blood trail to speak of. Impressed with how quiet it was suppressed and think it would be a great round for young kids. I'd have a better opinion of it with a different bullet I guess.

Any sub bullet with spine shot is going to leave an alive deer for a bit.

A lot of the Whitetail deer I've killed on my place were with a 300BO. Most of my shots are 60 yards at most. I shoot a 125gr SST over a run of the mill loading of H110 at about 2200fps. Never lost one, most never make it 10 yards if they don't DRT. One of the best things about the 300 is it doesn't even ring your ears even out of a 16'' bbl.
I personally wouldn't take a shot much over 100 yards with it though.

Here’s one from last weekend. Whitetail doe at 100 yards. 194 Lehigh subsonic. Shot through the lungs with complete pass through. Bullet did not seem to expand much based on the exit, but she was down pretty quickly so didn’t seem to matter. Lungs had a nice hole in them.
