I recently inherited a 30-06. Been a bit since I reloaded for one...lots of new options out there. I'm most likely going to use the Hornady 178 eld-x, seems like a good bullet for big game to 450-500 yds. The rifle has a 24" barrel, so it should be able to produce good velocity. Does anyone have any good loads for this bullet and caliber?....or any other suggestions for a similar load?

I've had good results using reloder 17 underneath barnes 175 gr LRX's, Nosler 180 Accubonds, and Hornady 178 eld-x's. I'm trying to find my reloading journals to get the exact load, but with just having moved not having much luck finding it. Stid2677 had a similar load that you could probably find on the forum with a little searching.

178 gr eldx
53.5 gr H4350
Fed 210 primer
Weight sorted left over Remington brass
22 inch stock Savage 110 barrel

I have some new Nosler brass I got as a gift but I havent tried it yet. I'm getting around 2750 fps and right around 3/4 MOA to 1 MOA

I will say the eldx works but I ran one through a hard quartered little white tail at about 100 yards. It entered at the shoulder but didn't hit bone and was found in the opposite side ham. Great penetration but the jacket expanded past the interlock ring (which really is nothing more than a little bump in the jacket). The deer died but it definitely made a mess. It wasn't unexpected though. I wouldn't personally use them at impact velocities north of 2800.

Thanks for the input guys. I rounded up my old dies and loaded up a few this weekend. I had some 165 and 180 Sierra gamekings, so I loaded up 10 of each. 55.5 gr of IMR4350 with the 165, 54.5 gr with the 180. I'm not planning to use the Sierra's for hunting, but figured I'd shoot them for accuracy testing and maybe on rockchucks. I also bought a box of Hornady Precision Hunters with the 178 Eld-x, so I'll see how those shoot. Keep the loads coming, looks like I need to head to Sportsmans Warehouse so I can start testing the loads that are being shared!

For your 165 SGKs 58 grains of 4350 for 2850fps-ish should do well. If it won't soot that load well it doesn't need a gunsmith, it need an exorcist.

For my 180 interbonds I use 56 grains for 2750ish. All with Winchester brass
