I am going on a moose hunt in 2027. I have a .30-06 that shoots the federal terminal ascent 175 grains very well. In addition, I shoot this gun very well.

I own a .300 mag that I don’t shoot well. I am actually going to sell or trade it. Too much gun for me. I will keep it if I need it.

This past year I harvested a small bull elk at 50 yards. Double lung but the elk made it a few hundred yards. Good blood trail. My first elk.

Good to go with that round? I only question it because the elk made it a decent distance. Maybe that’s normal.

I feel like I know the answer already but wonder if I’m good to go.

I'm not familiar with terminal ascent, but if it is a bonded bullet, you're good. I killed a big Yukon moose in 2024 with my .30-06. I loaded 200 grain Nosler Accubond bullets going about 2450 fps. The shot was 98 yards and knocked the moose flat. A second shot in the shoulder anchored it and kept it from moving into the lake. Moose are not hard to kill but there is a lot of tough muscle and bone to punch through to hit vitals. I paid a lot for my moose hunt and I used the toughest bullets I could reasonably shoot and load. I spent a lot of time at the range getting this particular load dialed in for my gun, and becoming familiar and comfortable with it. You are definitely not under-gunned with an -06 for moose, but I highly suggest the toughest bonded bullet you can shoot well out of your gun. Good luck on your hunt and make your shot count.

I had that same setup a couple years ago for my cow elk hunt. 187 yds and double lung. Dropped her in her tracks. Some animals are just tough and don't know when they are dead. You are fine

Any good bullet out of a 06 will kill any bull moose. I understand your diligence but don't get twisted up over bullet selection. I've killed four Alaskan moose and not one even took a step when hit in the boiler room.

Moose don't act the same as an elk after being shot. Of the 5 moose I've seen shot, everyone of them ran a few steps and then just stood there soaking up usually another two rounds.
