Threads like this are rather silly. BUT - "only" using three calibers is something I did for over 20 years, so here they are:
.22LR
.270 WIN
20 ga

Didn't feel like I needed anything else. Wasn't really into firearms those years, anyhow.

I think 12ga, 22lr and 270win is a great choice in terms of ammo too. Factory ammo in the local corner store. Easily traded for on the street after the zombies get here. So ubiquitous.

Fun fact- All over 100 years old and still a popular choice here.

223 with FMJs for small game (headshots), varmints and deer close in.
6mm of some sort set up for fast twist. 6mm CM, 6mm XC something in that speed range.
300 Win, 300 PRC, 300 Norma Mag, 338 Lapua something like that for everything else.

If elephants were on the books, I'd want a 416 Remington/Rigby for elephants in a bolt action magazine rifle that had a magazine capacity of at least 5. And I would get rid of the 6mm.

That's tough! I think I'd do these 3 calibers:
.358
.50
.729

Here's the season/cartridges:
Small game - 38 special/12 gauge
Birds including turkey - 12 gauge
Archery hunting self defense sidearm - 357 mag
Rifle seasons - 358 win / 35 whelen / 358 Norma Mag
Muzzleloader seasons - inline 50 cal
Flintlock season - 50 cal flintlock rifle or pistol
Special regs straight wall areas - 360 buckhammer
Coyote / hog hunting - 350 legend

I don’t want to live in a world where I’m limited to 3 calibers but I’ll take 17hmr, 25-06 and 12 gauge

-12g or 28g
-22lr or 22 caliber centerfire of some flavor
-7mm or 6mm

Mix and match any of those right there

I rarely use a 12g anymore. I love suppressed 22lr.. Nothing better. And depending on state regulations using 223 for deer. I'd likely be straight outlaw though and do 28g, 223/5.56, and 7mm.

I'm truly torn between 7mm and 6mm so if I could go 4 calibers it would be 28g, 22lr, 6mm, 7mm

Only 1 caliber.. 12g

I mean, it night not be the most efficient, but you could make a pretty good case for a 12ga for everything: big game (slugs), birds, home defense, varmints, the occasional stop sign that keeps talking behind your back...
