3-Blade Broadhead recommendations

I’ve had great results with Wacem 3 blades 100gr and the Grim Reaper Hades 3 blade Pros. I’ve found the G5 strikers to be finicky and the QAD Exodus to not be as sharp as I’d like.

How loud are they in flight? Just about every vented broadhead I have ever used has been pretty loud in flight
I shoot 2" Blazer vanes and to my ear, they are "noisy". The G5's don't seem to make my arrows any louder than they already are - in my opinion. That said, I haven't had an elk react to an inbound arrow yet, so they can't be that loud...

So many quality heads, all will kill just fine. What is your max comfortable distance shooting a live elk? 50yds? 60yds?
Whatever it is I would choose strictly on whichever head gives you the tightest grouping at that distance and the highest confidence on hitting the mark. If you cannot get them to group as tight as field points at your max distance I would rethink the whole setup.

Good Luck!

I haven’t been having much issue with getting Broadheads to group out to 65, which is the max I can get at my home range. I’m just looking for some options and to be completely honest I feel like I’m chasing rabbits

They will all kill elk the same. One last thing I might look at is noise...at that distance I can usually hear any broadhead flying thru the air...might try to find the quietest one.

Qad exodus. My group of guys I hunt with have used them a lot and have always been pleased with the outcome. The short length definitely seems to keep them forgiving in accuracy.

I only shoot 54 pounds due to shoulder surgery and a senior citizen. I started shooting VPA 3 blade vented 100 grain and really like them. I sharpen them razor sharp and they fly like field points from my well tuned bow out to 80 yards. Last year I had a bull at 40 yards just slightly quartered to and he didn't make it 50 yards. Went on to kill bucks in Pa and Ohio both died within sight on my tree stand. Lots of good broadheads out there and if you don't mind sharpening your heads look at the VPA's.

I run a similar bow set up. I know you didn't ask about them, but Montec 3-blades have worked well for me. They group consistent and I've had pass-throughs out to 65 yards on 4/6 of the last 6 elk that I've shot. The others hit bone.

No issues with sharpening heads, and I like to get a really good edge on all my broadheads. Great photos btw!

I had some montecs a long time ago and I had one snap off just above the shank. I don't remember the details since it was 15+ years ago, but I suspect that those heads have improved.

It would be hard to go wrong with the Exodus for elk. Many like them a lot. I've used them, they work.

I like playing with broadheads. Unfortunately, I've never seen it used one that I've liked at and said, "Wow, this thing is about perfect! "

My favorite of all time so far is the old (original) Trophy Taker Terminal T Lock (the regular, not the scalloped Shuttle version). Tough, sharp, accurate, easy blade replacement, great penetration. Once the company was sold though, I went elsewhere as the quality was not up to the original in my opinion.

But admittedly, there are MANY I haven't tried.

I'm a bit surprised no one mentioned the head that is probably responsible for more dead animals than any other 3 blade head; The Thunderhead. Great design though a little bigger than the newer heads.

I mostly shoot 2 blades but killed a bull with a Thunderhead a couple years ago for old times sake. I shot him at 27y and he barely made it 20y and dead in sight.

I've shot them out to 50y and they are money. Past that you might want to look at one of the little tiny 3 blades heads like that Exodus. Those small heads will be better for the long range guys.

I use the cutthroat 3 blades on my trad bow. One thing I will say is they’re great heads and very easy to resharpen BUT if you shoot one in the dirt there’s a very good chance the tip will roll over if it even glances a small rock. I noticed that on two different occasions this fall.

I like the Exodus. Shot my first bull with one in 2024. A bit of a quartering toward me shot at 16 yards and got a full pass and the arrow was buried in a tree. I then shot a whitetail buck with on at 35 yards about a month later and had great results. I shot my whitetail last year with an expandable but will be going back to the Exodus when I’m holding another archery elk tag.

31” draw / 70 lbs
