3.5 Ecoboost or not ?

Last year, I got both exhaust manifolds done with oil and coolant lines for under $2K.
In through the fender liner.
?
That's not bad. I got quoted $2700 parts included but I wanted to use the BD Diesel manifolds so I bought everything during one of their sales and plan on doing it all myself. Not looking forward to it, but it will save me $2k in labor.

It’s not that bad. Just time consuming. And good call on the ductile manifolds. They handle heat a lot better than the oe units. Hopefully it works out for you.

Those manifolds still rotting off?
I had a 99 f150 that did that. I sold it to a friend that had a guy take a fender off and replace one. I think he paid $500.00. course this was 10 years ago.
I have owned 3 f150's none had any real problems I could not fix and I'm no mechanic.

My 2021 ranger EcoBoost averages 23-25 mpg.
I am nervous about the Transmisson now that it's out of warranty. That and the heat/ AC blend door warping and breaking.

I didn’t read the whole thread. However my business has had a few fords. 2011 3.5 eb lasted 190k until it needed a timing chain and had turbo issues. A 2013 3.5 eb that had a bad timing chain rattle at 120k. Got rid of it asap. We have had 3 v8 f150s in the last 10 or so years. We had the last year of the 5.4 triton that lasted 320k no major issues just leaking exhaust manifolds. That truck was a service truck and in the fields a lot. A 2015 v8 that we sold running well at 235k and I currently drive a 2023 5.0 and have about 40k working miles on it with zero issues. V8 fords have treated me well. 3.5 eco boosts have not. $.02

I bought the BD manifolds last year on sale and provided them to my mechanic for installation.
Seems like a better design.

Just had phasers go out in my 19 EB and replaced by the transferable warranty that was from the PO.

Anyone have any problems with the new design style thats supposed to fix these?

I got the new phaser update replaced with the extended warranty on my 2018. That was about 2 years ago and it’s been flawless, no more rattle from the phasers at all.

I do however have some “waste gate” rattle from one of the turbos. Apparently it’s yet another known issues and no fix under warranty.

My 5.0 is still running strong at 160K, my uncle had nothing but problems with his 3.5, and traded it in about 4 years ago for a 5.0 and loves it. I had a 5.4, and put 200k on that with no issues.

Just to chime in I have a 2018 3.5 eco crew cab xlt, bought used at 67k and now has 130k.

In that time the only non wear and tear items I've had to repair or replace has been one of the valve covers cracked, the radiator also developed a leak from the seam at the plastic end caps (these involve a lot more labor hours for a repair then i expected a radiator to have), and right now it needs to have the oil pan seal/gasket replaced as its leaking slightly, but I'm holding off on that till I can buy an aluminum replacement pan that the newer trucks use, instead of the plastic one. I'm sure something will fail eventually, but so far its been great, put plenty of miles on it driving from MN to WY and SD for hunts.

Overall this has been an awesome truck to have, the crew cab is very roomy for the family, I don't like the short box but it works for being in the metro and dealing with parking ramps on campus.

Just had to do the cam phasers and timing chain, water pump on mine. Bought about a year ago, used 2018 3.5 F150. Love the truck. Got a really good deal on it...but after $4500 bill from the mechanic.....I'm about even on it I'd think. Power wise, it tows fantastic. I have a 3K lbs camper I tow 10-12 times a year and can't even tell its back there.

I've got a '17 f150.
144k miles

I love it.

Glad to see the manifolds aren't a fluke lol.

Have one going out. Just ordered some aftermarket turbo manifolds to replace them with. Those are going on this weekend.

Also having electrical issues with the cruise control and the seat memory.

Hub issue not disengaging too just got fixed.

Some front end work.

But no turbos yet.

Got an MPT tune and she's a little rocket. Smoked a newer Benz a few years ago. His governor kicked in as I was pushing 130. But he couldn't pull ahead of me. Closest he got was the back doors

307k on a 2013 - Replaced a bit of stuff and wrecked one side but repairing it is still cheaper than buying new, if ya got a spare car. I do regret replacing "leaking turbo coolant tubes." That only lasted about a year before we had to pull the cab and rebuild the turbos (at about 250k miles.)
