You can look up the specs on any Manufacturers site 3/4 and 1 tons come with or are avail. with the same drivetrain. my pers. truck is a 3/4 Duramax and my Business truck is a 1 ton Duramax. the tow cap is 18500 and 20000 respectively. You cant tell the diff towing a 12000# trailer. The 1 ton has more leaf springs in back and that is about it

Ive had 2500 gas crew cab 4x4 chevys through work for the last 5 years, had a 13, 15, 17, and now a 19, put 40k a year on them pulling about 10k pounds 5-6 weeks of the year. Everyone of them has gotten about 12-14 mpg average on the highway , towing 8-10 . Also the 15, 17, 19 all have musty wet smelling dog AC/Heat units on startup after about 40k miles. Google it . Chevy makes a spray to fix it but its a temp fix.

I have a 2018 F250 and average ~15mpg mixed driving but that is leveled and 37s. Before the wheels and tires I got 21mpg unloaded and 18mpg pulling our 23ft airstream from Austin to Yellowstone last summer.
Do the tires rub? I have the same truck levelled and can't decide between 35 and 37. Would you do 37s again?

I realize your asking about diesel trucks, but I have a 2017 ram long box crew cab with the 6.4 and with the cruise set on 70 for 3 hrs on the interstate I was at 19.4 according to the EVIC. Stock size wheels and tires. I was happy with that. Unloaded and not towing of course.

Leveled with 35's I lost about 3 mpg as far as I can tell.

In the same boat as the OP. After 10 yrs of faithful service my Expedition needs upgraded. Still runs fine but approaching 250k. For the little towing I do, Jeep, EB, and camper I think I am about 90% going with the 7.3...If I can find one. Looks like I am going to have to order a 21 to get the model I want with the 7.3. They are hard to find.

it rubs at full lock, but that’s with somewhat offset wheels. You may not have any rubbing of on stock wheels.
You can fit 37’s on stock wheels with a level kit on these trucks. I currently have 35” MT’s with a leveling kit and I’ll move up to 37’s next time.

My truck is a 19 F350 SRW 4x4 short bed power stroke (yes, I know a rare bird). Highway driving unloaded I get 17-18 mpg @ 70mph depending on the wind. Pulling my trailer I get 10mpg. However my trailer is a 30ft tandem dual gooseneck hauling a 18K pound piece of equipment, plus a 100gal fuel tank.......it’s a load.

Avg about 14mpg daily driving the 2017 F250 long box crew cab with 6.2.

Mine is a 2020 Crew can short box with the 6.2 and getting the same 14ish mpg. I found that the truck prefers the 87 octane for daily driving and premium for towing.

I’ve had two:

2011 Chevy 2500 HD 6.0L gasser- 11.5 mpg Avg
2017 Ram 2500 6.4L gasser- 16 mpg Avg

The ram had more power, drove better, and had a larger interior. If I was hauling a camper around I’d go find another one right away
