280 Rem Brass for 7mm Backcountry: A workaround idea

Fair bit of data here. Fella made his own dies originally, formed cases from 280 ackley as well. So it has steel and brass case data.

Edit........fair warning, the guys data is likely on the very warm side, he pushes stuff to the max in general. Finds pressure, drops charge 1% and runs it there 🤣 so be careful!

While driving back from the reloading store, I was listening to a podcast from a prominent hunting and guns writer. He said that he was on a hunt to test a new 7 Backcountry load. He could not disclose who produced the load, but it was not a Federal load.

My guess: Remington ammunition has the same owner as Federal. Could we see a lower cost Cor Lokt or Core Lokt Tipped Remington.

Reviving the thread... This OP thinks like me...

"If I buy this rifle, while it may not make sense....what can I do with it?"

Personally, I love the idea. 280 rem, a great cartridge. 7mm BC, even better?

Lee is now supporting the reloadability of the 7mm BC alloy cases, making available a FL sizing die, with some load data and instructions for reloading the HP alloy case.

One could have two effective cartridges shot out of one rifle. Buy off the shelf 7 bc and reload the steel, and, reload your own fireformed brass in bigger batches for range play days. Two dope charts for one rifle... IDK, maybe it's crazy town talk, but I love the idea of having both options in one rifle, effectively save either $2-3k on the rifle, or $40/box of ammo reloading your own brass over buying the quite expensive - not dialed to your gun factory 7mm BC ammo.
