Hey guys new to the Forum found recently when I started looking For a new pack
And finally made an account. Really like this forum over other hunting forums out there so look forward to being on here.

Anyway I’m wondering what everyone’s thoughts are about this cartridge sticking around and ammo availability going forward. I am thinking of getting a browning x bolt hells canyon in 28 nosler but am a little concerned it will never really pick up popularity and ammo Choice will fade out. Im not really into reloading as I just don’t have time with my other hobbies. And on top of that im
In California so any ammo Must be lead feee Moving forward. I know nosler makes their e tip (lead free) but that’s the only One I’ve seen so far.

And I know someone is going to say just get a more popular cartridge that has been around and is here to stay...... that’s not my question I want something a little different and am even ok with paying a little more for ammo as long as Im Able to buy the ammo im More concerned it will Be discontinued...

Let me know what you guys think is the 28 nosler here to stay?

I would think Nosler would keep making it to support the caliber. On a side note, when I was watching the classifieds of a few forums looking for a new gun it seemed like a lot of 28 Noslers were for sale.

Personally, I wouldn't buy one if I did not reload. 50 bucks for a box of 20 lead free is too steep when there are other just as capable calibers available for much less. It is likely to stick around being that popular manufacturers are building them. Will it ever turn into a 30/06, 7RM, etc? Maybe, maybe not.

Of all the Nosler cartridges, the 28 has the best chance of sticking around, and possibly even becoming "mainstream". Go ahead and buy it if you want it, it's a hell of a cartridge! Not much you can't do with a 180 at 3200 fps.

No, simple answer. They're finicky on accuracy, they're barrel burners, and the brass situation is problematic. There's a reason allot of custom builders are not pushing them anymore..

I have had a Gunwerks 28 for over a year now. Shoots great with three different loads, including a lead free one. I also don’t have any issues getting brass when I need it.

I think the naysayers are only repeating something they have heard or read. It also has one of the best all around ballistics out there for long range; the speed they shoot along with the high b/c bullets are tough to out run.

If someone that has a 28 chimes in and says they hate it, I would be surprised.

Thanks for chiming in everyone, most of what I’ve read from People that have them love them. Im just so hesitant to pull the trigger with the limited choices of Ammo im Probably overthinking it though. I guess one thing that worries me is I only see one type of non lead ammo commercially produced And what if the rifle doesn’t shoot it well then im Kinda stuck

I too live in CA but I reload which opens up a lot of ammo options. You said earlier in your post you wouldn't be opposed to more expensive ammo, there are a lot of companies out there that will do custom load development for almost any cartridge. It would open up the doors for you if you wanted to shoot Barnes, Hornady GMX, Hammer, Flatline etc. copper bullets if the E-Tips didn't shoot well in your rifle since you do not reload. That being said I think the Browning Rifles have a 1 MOA or better accuracy guarantee so it will hopefully be a non issue. Buy it and shoot the heck out of it!

Well i guess I’m ok with paying a little More however not sure I’m ready to pay for custom ammo not sure id go that far. But that would be another option for me... idk why but after
Reading about this cartridge I just flat out want one. And can’t convince myself I don’t need it haha

Mine’s not “too finicky”...Shoots anything I run through it the same from reloads to factory. Great all arounder. And I have enough brass to last me a lifetime. It’s not the only gun I own, but it is one of my favorites. Mine is a Proof Research...

I think it’s here to stay but 28 nosler becomes less attractive if you don’t hand load, and much less so if you’re in CA and can’t just have ammo shipped to your house. Not worth the headache IMO.
