Working on getting my 28 Nosler shooting. Only tried a small sample size of H1000 which might work, but I'm getting slight ejector marks in the mid range of charge weights, and the density is super low.

I've seen some H50BMG, and Ramshot LRT in stock and was wondering if anyone has any feedback using these powders in 28. Or if anyone has a dirty little source for Retumbo, RL33, or N570 lol.

Currently testing 180VLD, also picked up a few boxes of 180 ELD-M.

What twist on the hammers? Buddy has a new savage and it tumbles 177 hammers like that's it's job.

If you can’t find N570 or RL33 I’d pickup the LRT and see how it does. Or US869 if you can find that.
What brand brass are you using? Factory chamber/freebore?

Might have a lead on some N570, doing some research it seems like 869 is very temp sensitive and corrosive. Using Nosler brass for now but not a big fan of it and probably invest in some Peterson soon. Chambered by Soldier Mountain, throated for 195's but the 180 sits perfect with the bottom edge of bearing surface at the junction and .060"ish off the lands.

N570 and Berger 195's are magic sauce
but
N570 will eat the throat of the barrel, one of the hottest burning powders there is.

That combo turned my 7stw into a laser after years of mediocrity.

Nosler brass is definitely soft and will show ejector marks early on. ADG/Gunwerks/Peterson any of those are good.
My 28 Loves 195s over RL33.

I also have a rifle that will give me ejector marks at moderate loads if my sizing is off just a touch. It’s a tight chamber. If I bump my brass back another thou, so .002-.003” from fired, I have no issues and can run up to max easily. Just a thought, before you go buying more powder.

Interesting. Popped the primers out and took some measurements after today's test, I'm getting avg of .002" growth at the datum. But I did notice that I got some ejector marks and swipe on 1 of the 3 at 86gr, and also only 1 of the 4 at 89gr. Nothing else indicated pressure, so I think it's just a crappy Nosler brass thing.

Tested H50BMG today and if it stays consistent I think I got a winning combo. The 89gr 4 shot group had as ES of 9, and an avg velocity of 3063. Something happened with the 1 oddball at 87.5. It chrono'd 2630 and light recoil. This powder is super chunky and I plugged the funnel a couple times loading, must have forgot to fix that one..

If anyone has the Hornady app or manual and could post their load data for the 180 eld, I'd appreciate it. Curious to see what the difference from Hodgdon's data with VLD.

I don't don't have a snip of the actual data but here are the cliffnotes from Hornady app:
Browning X-Bolt Barrel 26" 1-8 twist, Hornady case, CCI 250
COL = 3.560
Powders tested (grains @ vel. max load):
N-170 (80.6 gr @3000),
N-570 (82.2 gr @3050),
LRT (90.7 gr @3100),
IMR8133 (80.0 gr @2950),
RL-33 (85.8 gr @3050),
RL-25 (78.0 gr @3000),
H1000 (77.5 gr @2950),
NORMA 217 (81.8 @3050),
Retumbo (78.5 gr @3000),
US869 (95.0 gr @3150)

FWIW
Fairly new to reloading (right about at a year) but I tried 162 grain eldx with LRT because that's one combination I could get my hands on at the time:
Nosler M48 patriot, 1-9 twist, nosler brass, CCI250, COL = 3.34 because Nosler Rifle mag box is at something stupid like 3.6 or less)
Accuracy was acceptable if I remember: Max - 89.8 gr @ 3254

I actually purchased the LRT to run 175 plus projectiles (once procured) just haven't tried and not enthused with mag length restrictions.

Also, I have other rifles that are cheaper and more enjoyable to shoot (Ha!)... so I've gravitated to those projects instead. Still have a decent amount of factory ammo to use in the 28 as well

Of course, everything except the powder I'm looking for lol! Thanks for that. I was really debating LRT but I couldn't find any locally, and by the time I pay hazmat for shipping it would be the same price. And I'm a fan of Hodgdon's extreme anyway.
