I have been playing with them in my .260 Ackley Improved noting out doing my go to load of 130gr VLD hunting over 48.6gr of superformance CCI BR primers going 3035fps and only having to neck size them..

I have tried the 142gr. ABLRs with
Superformance
H-4831
H-4831sc
H-4350
IMR4350
Acurate4350
RL17
RL19
RL22

H4831sc has been the best but groups open up after 800 and speeds are not what i would like to get 2825ish fps.

Also for guys saying the the 140 class bullet isn't enough… My wife just killed here Nevada bull elk this year with 1 shot to the lungs the a 130gr Berger VLD at 546 yards…

I have a Rifles Inc. ultralight rifle with a Leupy 3 1/2x10 that I rebarrelled to 264 win mag. It was a muzzlebraked 300 win mag, but I found that I hated muzzlebrakes. I shoot Barnes 120 TTSX with H1000 or Retumbo and find that it kicks nicely

RamsHead, What length barrel and twist rate did you go with? My Winchester came from the factory with a 26" barrel and 1.9 twist. The twist rate is really limiting me with bullet choices, that and California.

Out of curiosity what is your velocity with that 120 TTSX? I looked them up they have a better BC than the 130 TSX I am shooting which has me thinking a little bit but now I am getting in to a numbers game.

I went with a Shilen 1:9 twist. It was supposed to be 25" but the gunsmith f----- up and it is 24 ". I seem to have a slow short barrel that runs the 120TTSX at 3250fps. From what I have read most shooters are getting at least 100fps more. I have found the 120 TTSX to consistently be the most accurate bullet for my rifle.

3300+ FPS man that is moving, sounds like it is knocking on the door for Weatherby levels of speed.

Well you got me curious enough to give them a try. I bought a box of 120 TTSX's (back ordered) when they come in I will work up a load, hopefully I can find some more retumbo.
I usually lean towards the heavy bullets but don't really have that option in California.

I will post up my results when I can get some range time.

I've got a Rem 264 win mag that I had rebarreled with a 1:8 26" Bartlein. I'd burned the throat out on the stock barrel in less than 1000 rounds and I've got about 400 down the new barrel. I've got a Leupold 3-18x50 vx-6 on it along with a Timney at 20 oz. and a Browns Precision stock. Total hunting weight is 8 lbs. 12 oz.

I've settled on using 130 Sciroccos at 3250 using 68.5 grains of Retumbo. 68 grains of Retumbo pushes the 140 grain Berger just shy of 3200. 75 grains of 50BMG with the Berger is a few fps slower than the Retumbo. My old barrel liked 63 grains of 7828 with the 140 grain Partition. That was over 3200.

I shot my muley this year 293 yards. It went down so fast I never saw it fall. I thought I'd missed.

I recently had a 6 Creedmoor built to practice long range range. I've shot it at 600 and it's scary accurate. It likes 105 grain Hybrids at 3150 fps. It's got a Greybull stock, Timney trigger and Vortex 6-42x50 HST and weighs in at 12 lbs. Once I'm comfortable with the Creedmoor I'll start shooting the 264 and long range but I don't want to burn up this barrel just playing around.

For mine, I'm sure it was shooting full bore hot loads and doing so when the barrel was hot. My understanding, too, is that the overbore cartridges lend themselves to that due to all the burning powder in the barrel. Most of the modern cartridge designs burn most of their powder on the case rather than the barrel. At least that's my limited understanding. I'm sure others will chime in.

That is what I have read as well on the overbore cartridges. I figured I would ask as you have already wore out a barrel and went through the process of replacing it.

Always looking to gain a little bit more knowledge.

I forgot to add that I cleaned with JB Bore paste on the old barrel so I'm sure that led to premature wear. The smith that built my rifle said if I even put a nylon bore brush in the new barrel that the warranty is void.

I have never used JB bore paste, but their are gun writers and a lot of people who swear buy it saying how good it is.

So how does that smith expect you to clean your barrel...

Parshal,

If your creedmoor, is effective out to 600yds, what do think the .264WM effective range will be?

That's exactly why I used the JB. I don't know if that contributed or not but the smith definitely thought so. As for a brush, it was the barrel manufacturer he said that wouldn't warranty it, not him. He said to run solvent patches through when the barrel is warm and said don't worry about copper fouling with a good barrel. I don't know how much I agree but that's what I was told.

The Creed is accurate out to 600 (longest target I've got at my range) and I know of people killing antelope and elk out to that distance with it but I like a little more punch if I'm shooing animals. The deer this year at 293 was the longest measured shot I've taken although I did shoot a doe antelope with it years ago that seemed a lot further. Both were one shot drops. I figure 600 may be the farthest I'm going to feel comfortable shooting at an animal and should most likely be able to get closer.

If you look at the ballistic charts, the Scirocco only needs 1700 fps to properly expand (according to my discussions with Swift) and that puts it effective out to 1250 yards at 3250 and about 1220 at 3200. That's way farther than I plan to shoot. Using 1700 fps, the Bergers will extend that distance by 100 yards and I'm sure they work just fine at slower velocities which extends it even further.
