Thanks for the update Paul! I was pulling for you. I was hoping you would stick a giant to go along with that buck you shot a few years ago.

ST52v, ha ha, I was hoping the same thing, that's why I passed on so many bulls! (grin) I wanted to best the bulls I'd taken prior to this hunt! The year I took that big muley I passed 27 other bucks, some were tough to pass as were some of the bulls this year, hey but that's elk hunting! I truly enjoyed that WY hunt, so much action everyday, it was unreal compared to years of hunting OTC DIY units.

Slim Jim, yes he did have a blast watching that arrow sink into the bull at 20 yards. We're heading out with Trey on Oct 15, that's the elk opener with a rifle. We are trying to get him on a bull, he's 10 years old so won't be easy. I have a great spot where he will be able to shoot under 200 yards, it's real thick stuff & takes about an hour to walk to but hopefully it will pay off & his 7mm-08 will bark with accuracy! (grin) Fingers crossed!

Thanks guys!

Some of my best hunting seasons were like that with lots of action and BIG bulls, yet still didn't even bring an elk home. I'll take those any day over a season with few encounters and arrowing an average bull. Sounds like you had a blast.

I can't eat a lot of encounters. I'll take meat in the freezer every time.

If it's just meat I'm after, I'd rather fill the freezers with beef. But there are also plenty of freezer filler tags available for that as well. For archery season for me.......it's all about having fun. And those encounters, especially with big bulls........is FUN!

I wasn't trying to talk you into anything. I was just giving my view. I love encounters too, but not at the expence of not having meat for the year.

A couple of hundred pounds of beef is expensive. I can get the same amount of elk meat for $49. Very important for a poor SOB like me.
