Started going down a rabbit hole accidentally. I'm about to order some components for my coming 25 creed. I did a generalized search to see what the preferred primer was for 25 creedmoor and creedmoor cases in general. Search came back as CCI 450 which this got my brain ticking

Ive read that LRP's are preferred for hunting because bigger/hotter than SRP for cold weather hunting. I know its in the sub 30 degree temps which I rarely do, but IF i'm using magnum SRP's then doesn't that kinda equal it out?

OR is AI messing with my search results for the use of magnum SRP's?

I believe Peterson and Hornady(new to 25cm block) are the only makers of LRP 25cm brass. Alpha, SRP Peterson, necked down Lapua users are likely all using a cci450. Alpha uses a large flash hole with the small primer pocket, everyone else uses small flash hole with small pocket. This likely aids in ignition consistency.

If you're going to use Peterson large primer, ensure it's new production. When the saami specs came out for 25cm, Peterson had to thin the necks a fair bit. Their old brass was around 286-287 loaded diameter, which isn't much clearance in a 289 nk chamber. All my 25cm barrels had a 291 neck chamber, and necked down lapua 65cm and older Peterson 25cm worked well in that.

I shot 128 rds of 25x47 today in SRP alpha brass breaking in a new barrel. Used H4350, N150, N555 with a 135 Berger, touched off by a cci450. Temps early were in the teens and crept up to mid 20s. No drama, no hang fires, no odd velocities across the chrono. Now if you're going to be shooting single digits to negative temps, you might want a large primer.

I use federal 205m primers and never had a problem. I also don’t usually hunt below 20 degrees since I hunt Tennessee.

^just run the alpha brass for the best of both worlds (srp brass with large flash hole). I’ve been really happy with mine from my 6 dasher to few different creeds. They make great brass and as @khuber84 mentioned the large flash hole can aid in ignition as well. I’ve used it on some bitter cold backpack hunts without second thought and had no issues.

Probably around 3000 rounds of 25 creedmoor I’ve never had a hang fire or issue using CCI 450s. This is all with h4350 and n555. Not a ton of extreme cold experience. Probably wouldn’t sweat it unless you’re in a very cold environment and even then it’s probably fine
