A .243 is more of a multipurpose rifle than the .22-250. A .243 would be awesome with a 58gr v max. That being said, either will work. That being said, a coyote is not going to know if it was hit by a .243 or .22-250. Both are good.

As a guy that has used both I prefer the 22-250 as stated many times usually less damage to the hide if that’s what your after.

243 all the way. 22-250 is a IMHO a wasted caliber. Serves no purpose. My 223 is much more accurate, cheaper to load, shoots a heavier bullet and I only lose a few 100 fps. 22-250 is hard on brass ( so is a 243 ). The 243 could serve many more applications than a 22-250. My 243 is more accurate than my 22-250 is also.

RE: Yotes... if you have a .223 Rem, try giving Hornady's 35gr NTX load a try. They claim 4000fps at the muzzle.

On the one I've taken with it so far, that came running in towards me with the hand-held caller and stopped at like 10-15yds... Went clean thru double-lung, on exit nicked ribs and elbow so lil bigger exit than entry.

Nice blood for the maybe 35yds total she managed to run.

I am following this with interest...and trying to talk myself into buying a 22-250 when I already have something in 243 and 223. What I am hearing, though, is with those two rifles already in hand, there is little reason to get a 22-250. No?

There’s always a reason to get a new gun, biggest being you want one. That alone should be enough. Now just convince yourself, you don’t have that one yet, you can give the 243 and 223 a break and shoot the 22-250. You can have another cartridge, in case the other two become unavailable or hard to get. You need the bit of extra speed the 22-250 offers because you may need that long shot and don’t have time to dial scope in etc. Just think of enough reasons, and buy one. Hell I have three rifles and multiple pistols I have never shot. If you don’t like it you can always sell it, that is one excuse I use to convince my self to buy one, when the urge arises. Good luck with your new 22-250, it should shoot great. Lol

If you’ve got a can chop the 22-250 to 16”, I love the handiness of short barrels even when suppressed they handle and shoot great.
If you have the twist try the 75-80gr v-max or eldm bullets it’ll make a believer of you.
If you switch to 6mm go creed and sling 108eldm they’ll crush a yote way on out.

243 over the 22-250, easy.

A 22 Creedmoor over the 22-250, even easier.

243 versus 22 Creedmoor? Now thats a tough one. Both will shoot flat and DRT Coyotes.

The big popular thing to do now is chop your barrel down to 18” and loose 100’s of FPS, not a fan of slowing my bullet down either.
