My choice for coyotes would be the 22-250 and if I was interested in 6mm, I'd go with 6mm Creedmoor.

I've worn out a couple 243s and recently switched to Creedmoor. The ballistics are similar but reloading seems to be much friendlier and barrel life is claimed to be better.

I use the 6mm because of the chance that a wolf might respond.

A wolf, and the 243 won’t handle one ? Heck I shoot deer, elk, hogs, with a 243 and would have no question about it working great on a wolf, no issue what so ever.

Use FMJ with .243 and it is not hard on hides. I’ve taken several coyotes and a wolf with minimal damage. Shot placement is key.

Might want to give the 22-6MM a look if you want something thats flat shooting and absolutely screaming with 75-80 grainers
This cartridge is widely forgotten about to be so deadly on anything from deer and smaller

if your average shots are 200-250 then i would run the 22-250. If I was in wolf country or was planning on shooting longer ranges then I would size up to 243/6mm

For that distance I'd even consider a bolt swap and get a 223 rem Criterion barrel. Otherwise a 22-250 1-8" in a sporter weight would give you a lighter barrel and flexible twist for 53gr through 80's.

What's the velocity diff between 243 and 6 CM? 50 fps?

The 55 BT's I used were a little rough on pelts. I missed a chance on three yotes yesterday. But with 15mph winds and only having my AR15 I didn't want to waste shots at 650 yards and beyond 1100 yards. I knew I should of taken my 308 win lol.

I used 22-250 quite a bit but I really liked the reach and bang-flop with the 243. Learn to sew a hole and for keeping only a few pelts 243 would be my choice. Let’s you shoot farther with less worry of wind and a nice hold on distance too

Both have there place and love both cartridges. I prefer the 243. 70 grain nosler ballistic tips out of a 10 twist 243 are hard to beat. Little to no pelt damage and most of the time they never even exit. Not to mention they hit like a ton of bricks.

22-250 with a 55gr Nosler ballistic tip does the trick on all coyotes I’ve shot with little harm to the pelt

I've shot lots of coyotes with a 243ai and 105 a-maxs. I don't see any more damage from it compared to my 22-250 and 75 grain a-maxs. The right shot in the body leaves almost no damage with the 105's in my experience and they usually don't wiggle.

IMO 243 is an over kill for a coyote. Why spend that kind of money for a yote.
